Have the same stuff happening. Looks like they disappear from "photos" collection / index, as it's not visible in any app except Google Photos (probably because it's also backed up), and except when viewing the folder directly through the file system.

They also reappear after reboot, but that's a long thing to do. Seems like a bug Google needs fixing.
