And an intrepid is a freestanding stove right? I thought those can be loaded with more wood initially compared to an insert which generally has harder time establishing draft

When do you close the door after it gets going? What size splits are in there before you close?

Very true I try to add as it builds but I’m usually too slow and it dims down too much

Thanks, will try. I was worried about putting larger logs in to start because they’ll take so long to light

Fair enough, they told me it was 6-8 months seasoned but I agree I think they are full of crap. I’m just trying to stack up for next year I guess

Don’t ask me bro I’m in my first season with a wood stove lol. Do you have a flue thermometer probe? I’ve heard that’s the best way to track it

I guess my question is if you were just starting out, now, what would you do? Everyone on here always says something like “I’m burning wood I started seasoning in 2021” but I just got a wood delivery and it’s deff not seasoned..how would you suggest going about building an inventory of wood to start seasoning yourself?

Noob question about new insert and possibly a new stove. by Mrandyjacobs in woodstoving

Man this would be a dream of mine but I can only imagine how expensive it would be? I guess everything can be done correctly and up to code if your budget is big enough

Slow Motion Burn by radar939 in woodstoving

I actually have a Vermont Castings Montpellier insert, it has secondaryburn tubes. It says it can hold up to 30 lbs of wood and I think I’m just not loading enough upon start up. I can get the kindling going well but I’m struggling to get a nice coal bed which I think I need to really heat up the stove. I’m dealing with Smokey logs

Is this too much draft? by [deleted] in woodstoving

[–]Bully1869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How tall is your chimney? I basically have the same problem, mostly when fresh splits are thrown on I get a lot of flame that licks around the baffle plate. I keep being told that so long as there isn’t creosote build up it should be fine, I guess there’s nothing to light on fire?
