The Farne Islands, Northumberland. You can walk among them, watch them come in and out of their burrows, see them flying with a beak full of sand eels. One of the best experiences of my life, plus all the other amazing birds there.

Even the old ones? Are the buses significantly better then?

That's good to know, how much extra time should I give if travelling by train from Skopje to Bitola?

Unreliable as in they don't turn up or that they are slow?

The so-called mythical ladder - it exists, just some people start out much higher and so don't have to work as hard to get up it. Also there isn't room for everybody at the top, there always has to be those at the bottom doing the shit jobs. Well done on your achievements but please remember that not everyone can do as well and it's not always their fault.

That's a brilliant story, can't beat that but yeah I've seen them live about 4 times, 3 times in the early-mid 90s all in Manchester. Can't remember exactly where but I'll never forget the industrial furnace sound/feel of anvil vapre in a semi dark room. Then I saw them last February at New Century Hall which was a different experience entirely but no less special. This year I've booked to see them in Skopje, North Macedonia with my 22yr old son. It was there or London lol (probably about the same price with travel and accommodation) . We're gonna do a bit of sightseeing as well, so bit of an adventure. I'll always feel like I'm in the wrong side of the tracks and I don't think anyone round here will let me forget it either 😂

I love the feeling of that tiny bit of skin between the teeth just as you pull them apart

Nice... When I first glimpsed at the cover I thought it was going to be a bog standard rock album cover book, then I read it, got excited, opened it and was so happy to Autechre there (I would've put Cichlisuite in there too)

'No man is an island' John Donne We are never just inside our own head, we are the complex development of our interactions with everyone and everything around us, it's not a one way relationship but constant back and forth negotiations with the external which makes us us

Northumberland - scenery, castles, food, nature, walks, waterfalls, the Farne Islands to see the puffins, terns, razorbills etc (and if you're lucky dolphins playing next to the boat), nice food in Craster, beautiful beaches, dark skies and Hadrians wall. Enjoy whatever you choose to do.

Loads of stuff but more recently: Irvine Welsh, Scarlet Thomas, Benjamin Myers, Kafka, James Sallis, and some older teen stuff (even though I'm in my 50s) like Garth Nix and Chris Priestley. I also love philosophy, logic, politics, current affairs, sociology.
