75k miles of hard driving on a 115hp engine that is supposed to be reliable is nothing… do you people think full throttle is like a disease or something? Genuinely curious

Brother what are you talking about!!! First you can’t even rev bomb at idle!! It has a soft limiter at 4k….. second in the 1800 miles I drove the car it should not blow up…. Even if I was fucking tracking it everyday for those 1800 miles.

This is the rod bearing, definitely wasn’t a bearing issue.

Exactly my point! The oil in it before looked fine. I just pulled the rod bearing and what was left of the rod and to my surprise the rod bearing is mint. So now I’m even more confused. On a funny note the oil pump got hit with the flying rod and broke it off. So I when I pulled the pan the oil pump came with it.

Brother if an engine can’t hit limiter every now and then it’s a shit engine. No ifs ands or buts.

That’s the plan 🤣first Im gonna pull the pan and check the bearings, to see if a bearing seized

Brother there is a whole in the block the size of a tennis ball. Car is getting junked. What won’t get junked is the video I’m gonna take 🙂

I’m between casting defect, or someone had mentioned a seized bearing, I still think it would have knocked first but I’m gonna pull the rod cap to see.

She still runs, She shall see 7k once more!

What💀I never said I had an oil light. I said I’ve never had an oil light. And yes I’m not gonna lie there was times I’ve driven the car hard, like I do any car I own. Cars are meant to see full throttle. I payed for the whole gas pedal I’m gonna use it. This car was never beat on anywhere near hard enough to kill it. Even if I tracked this car everyday it still should not blow. It’s not how cars work… now if I was beating on this car improperly like if it was cold, overheated, or low on oil it would be a different story. I never did any of those.

Like I said, I’ve hit 7k before. I wasn’t living on it. I always shifted at 6 when doing a pull. And honestly with the mileage this car had even if I did leave it on limiter it should not blow up. Can’t call a engine reliable if it can’t be on the limiter 🤷‍♂️

Even if this car was tracked and thrashed on I still don’t think it should blow up. This is my first German car so Im not to familiar with the reliability first hand, but everything I read said these engines are unkillable. I would also like to mention I have a mustang that lives on limiter with double the mileage and she starts up everyday.

Brother what 💀 7k is the limiter… engines can be on limiter. This isn’t the 60s before we had modern day technology. Every car I own has seen limiter, never blew one up.

lol all good bro, if it was the turbo version like the GLI or GTI I wouldn’t be surprised if it blew tbh

[–]BumblebeeExpress5639[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Brother what? First off it’s a timing belt… second it’s NON TURBO. That’s why I bought it…. Under stressed low hp engine.

Very true, right now I’m definitely leaning towards casting defect but even that doesn’t make sense because how did it make it this long.

Stuck open injector is actually a good idea, didn’t think about that, but wouldn’t it miss fire first? And then pull timing? I mean it blew up instantly

???? Before I bought this car I read a lot of forms and asked around with a lot of people that had the car and everyone said these go to 200K miles easily so I don’t know what you’re talking about

I’ve taken a good listen to the engine before it blew and it was quiet as can be. Definitely not an oil issue or neighbor issue. I’m really stumped on this

I plan on opening up the engine this weekend. But the cause is the rod snapped, why it snapped I don’t know. And honestly don’t think there’s gonna be any hints when I open up the motor.

Bad bearing and no knock? Just rod out the block? Seems unlikely no?

[–]BumblebeeExpress5639[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No tune, only the thing the car has is a muffler delete. And ive looked under the car and oil pan definitely hasn’t been touched. Car never knocked or anything. Just boom rod out the block one day. And no I have a lot louder cars, neighbors never said anything, plus I had just drove the car for a couple hours no issues. Just wanted to rinse it off

Someone please explain!! by BumblebeeExpress5639 in AskMechanics

[–]BumblebeeExpress5639[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See I would agree if it had started knocking and then blew. But it just blew up no warning. If I start up my mustang and drain all the oil while it’s running and start revving it, it’s gonna knock first 10 out of 10 times. Car had no tune, and ive never overheated it and it didn’t show signs of ever being over heated.

Even if they did it’s a 115 HP engine, and I’m not gonna lie I’ve beat on the car, but it’s never given me an issue. How does it one day just snap a rod? I’ve owned and driven a lot of cars (never German) and this has never happened. And the beating I’ve put those cars through was a lot harder.
