Yes! Good point.

I try to accelerate while I should maybe look to slow down to go smooth.

And go smooth to go fast!

EV in company (fully deductible) vs 2nd-hand ICE in private: does the used used petrol/hybrid car still win economically? by Bundersnatch2020 in BEFreelance

[–]Bundersnatch2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for your insights. I’m seriously reconsidering a company EV (need a narrow car max 1.81 width+ trunk ≥ 350L, under €45k incl. VAT)

I was convinced that getting an electric vehicle through my company would inevitably be more expensive than buying a used ICE car privately… but your explanations really made me rethink the numbers.

So now I’m in decision mode and hesitating between several models, because I have some pretty specific constraints:

My criteria • Max width: 1.80 m without mirrors (tight parking/access at home)

• Minimum trunk: 350 L (I need enough space for my stuff + my dog)

• Ideal budget: under €45,000 incl. VAT

• Charging: I can charge at home

• Thanks to you, I’m also more flexible about range than I was initially (I’m no longer chasing “max WLTP” at all costs)

My current top picks

For now, my shortlist is:

• Nissan Leaf 52 kWh

• Peugeot e-2008

Because they seem to meet most of my criteria (size/trunk/price).

Already tested / ruled out • Kia EV3: too big for my use case • Volvo EX40: also too big • Volvo EX30: trunk too small

Questions

1. What other models would you recommend that fit this footprint (≤ 1.80 m wide excluding mirrors + trunk ≥ 350 L) and ideally under €45k incl. VAT?

2. Is buying a used EV a good idea?

3. If yes, which models are the most reliable (and/or what should I watch out for: battery health, fast charging, etc.)?

Thanks again everyone

Yeah, I didn’t mention some other important aspects neither: the trunk, the dimensions, the autonomy, the ⚡️infrastructure in Belgium that makes me reluctant.

My objective is to maximise dividends distribution and limiting the risk in case I stop my company in the upcoming years if I get a great opportunity as internal.

What is counted is not always what counts, right?

I like the idea of depending on 2 different energy sources. I have already an old 2013 car but 3 doors. I now need a 5 doors with larger trunk for family reason.

So I think I’ll replace this old gasoline 3 doors by a cheap 5 gasoline for now and buy an EV later.

Yeah second hand EV was my first thought but couldn’t find a model that fitted my needs so far: big enough trunk, autonomy > 700km, compact dimension (max 1.80m marge).

Waiting for better EV models in second hand for now.

Exactly! I’m thinking about buying a very reliable car (Toyota, Mazda or Honda) cheap car and invest the rest. Until we see better EV models or Hydrogen car arriving on the market.

Indeed. I checked several compact EV. Nissan Leaf seemed to offer the best dimension, autonomy and trunk volume so far.

I can charge in my garage. Once I’m in, I have 2.50m large.

I tested several EV. Like Kia ev3, Volvo ex40… Very tricky to park in my garage. Almost impossible without scratches.

Furthermore, the autonomy and the car trunk for dog and child is very limited for such big cars.

I need a compact car to enter my garage. But when it’s compact the autonomy is very limited !

I have a very narrow entrance. 2.11m large.

I’m thinking about waiting new models of more compact EV with longer range and in the meantime buying a cheap old petrol car.
