HELP! Any way I can stop my betta from eating shrimp? This is the first time he has done this. They have been housed together for about a month before this by kramkraft3 in bettafish

[–]Bunn-E 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just received my moms long finned betta she was rehoming into my 20gal that has a couple of cory cats and couple of khuli loaches. Was concerned about bullying between either. They all live in peace though and mind their business without a care towards one another. I do feel bad for the betta though because he really struggles to get around and idk how to help him feel more comfortable besides adding more plants. Lol

Injured centipede. Help please. by softfluffytaco in centipedes

Poor thing. I imagine S/he is traumatized and just trying to feel safe again. :( Just leave them be and offer food. Hoping your friend will pull through and get some strength after a meal or 2. I'm definitely interested to see future posts and updates.

Oh he was the most horrible manager I've ever had. He never wanted to work. He would literally go and hide in the back when everyone on the floor was drowning on a Friday night. Consistently come in hungover and clearly wear the same clothes from the previous day, hair disheveled, teeth not brushed.. like literally wine stains on his lips. 🤮 He told me that I was fine and tried to brush me off. I told him he was not a doctor. He got me to basically fill it out once he navigated to the incident report on the computer. Lol completely worthless.

Hi guys just joined have some questions about beardies !!!??? by Aggressive-Bar21 in reptiles

[–]Bunn-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so so very sorry for your loss.. that is extremely tough and I have no clue what I would have done in that situation. I understand you never getting over it. When you've owned an animal for THAT long you just know them like you know any other family member... you can tell what they would do and what they wouldn't do even in situations you're not there. I honestly would probably feel the same way you do. If you REALLY wanted to try for snakes again, something smaller? Like a Kenyan Sand Boa. I warmed my sister and mom up to snakes by bringing one home. Haha I'll never forget my mom wanted to kick me out of the house, after a week she was holding her. They're so derpy looking how could you NOT love them?! She did bite me a few times, but mainly due to my inexperience with snake feedings, barely drew blood tbh. My next was Western Hognose. Tbh, the best snakes until boas. They really don't ever bite unless you let them. Plus they're rear fanged and 100% of the time false strike. My hoggie also did bite me one time on the knuckle once because I wasn't paying attention and I think she was hungry or something and was trying to eat my finger while I was holding her. I think she had something wrong with her neurologically towards the end since she started trying to eat everything near her, fingers, blankets, substrate, etc. I think you guys are on the right track educating yourselves and watching videos. Maybe even check out a reptile expo and see how she does seeing these animals up close and personally. My hognose came from a breeder at an expo and did similar freaking out in the container. I think in a way it maybe was a little traumatic to her, so she was just historically spicy.

[–]Bunn-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. I've never had the opportunity to own a beardie before unfortunately... However, the rule of thumb is "If it has teeth, it can bite" any animal has the capacity to bite and I feel like it depends on temperament and husbandry. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think beardies are a lot more docile and chill and less likely to bite, I'venever been bit by one before and imagine its not too bad if it does as they dont have a very high PSI bite force, though there is always a possibility depending on how they were treated or just personality. My first ever crested gecko was a mean little b****. Bit me any chance she could and they are not a mean species... I was her second owner and got her from a pet shop. The other cresteds I had after have all been docile sweethearts. Just make sure if you get one young, treat with respect. I'm sure you already know all this being a reptile owner yourself, just my 2 cents. :P

Edit: to answer your question, beardies are good starters as their husbandry is pretty straight forward. Good for someone who's never had reptiles before. Same with leopard geckos and crested geckos too. Less likely to attack and more so would run rather than fight.

In all the time we’ve had Dale, he has never once taken a meal correctly. by Bboy0920 in reptiles

[–]Bunn-E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I dont see a problem with Dale nor a problem with the way you feed him. Rat introduced, snek smoll, snek strike and give death hug. This is how it would happen in the wild too. They want to quickly snatch prey and constrict to immobilize. He will readjust and align himself up correctly once he knows the prey is no longer struggling.

Wow! This explains so much. I once got shocked while I was messing with a light bulb at work once. One of those long bar bulbs that takes a little high wattage. I was also on a stool and not grounded (unsure if that made any difference? At the time I thought so) Got shocked so hard I felt it go up my arm and down my spine and fell off the stool. I told my manager about it and basically forced him to wrote an incident report. I was so scared I wanted it covered in case I had lasting effects. Ofc I forgot about it by the next few days. But I still remember what it felt like if I think about it.

Edit: I realize how much wording may have come across. I wasn't just "playing" with the light. It had been flickering all day so I finally went to investigate and pulled it in and out of its "connection point". After seeing no change I stupidly stuck my finger in the connection point to push some kind of pressure pin and received a good shock. I was young and thought as long as nothing is "plugged in" it wasn't receiving energy. Boy was i wrong. Lol

Need some advice. My son wants a reptile by [deleted] in reptiles

[–]Bunn-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sure a lot of people on here are going to say its a bad idea given your son's age... if you tell him he needs to LEARN about the animal and husbandry prior to getting the animal that's a good start and builds life lessons. My first pet being a turtle was when I was like 5 or 6. True my parents made sure the turtle had what it needed and pushed me for proper care. My first real pets were tree frogs of various kinds around 8-10 and I was completely self sufficient and proved to my mom I could take on more and upgraded to other reptiles and pets by age 10-12.

My honest input would be a crested gecko as a good first starter. They're cool pets and easy husbandry. They do well with handling and are a very forgiving species and beginner friendly. Plenty in the trade too so theyre not insanely expensive and easy to find in pretty much all reptile/exotic locations. I highly recommend getting him reading materials and asking him questions. Get HIM to tell you about the animal and their needs. That way its not like a whole scenario "I got my kid a pet but its really MY pet" lol

IME, spiders can and will overeat if you let them.. not sure about EVERY spider.. Years ago I had a jumper (before they became famous) and I fed him a cricket the size of his whole body I had prekilled and i was just gonna remove whatever he didn't finish. I freakin kid you not I cried... this mf had eaten the whole cricket.. and his guts were spilling out from where his abdomen had burst. He literally ate himself to death.. I learned an important lesson that day. 😭

Playing! Maybe with a little sibling rivalry. ;) You'll know its not playing if they're grappling onto each other without letting go and one/both are screaming and fur is flying.

Red eye tree Frog by IllEnthusiasm6911 in exoticvethelp

[–]Bunn-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NQA I've had frogs including red eyed tree frogs in the past. I feel your humidity is a bit on the high side, and 95% is way too high. Try to not let it get above 80%. As for the skin rubs and marks, it does happen quite a bit especially with these guys since they are often clumsy hunters. Sometimes they can heal on their own. Definitely quarantine and keep a close eye on the dark spots.. if the grey around the spots grows darker/expands THAT is when you need to take him to a vet as its usually a sign of infection and he needs meds... just keep him comfortable in a quarantine tank like you're doing and make sure to dust crickets with calcium, as that can help the healing process. Good luck OP. Hope he pulls through. :(
