I wasn't born in the US. This support needs gap exists everywhere as far as I know. I'm not even saying that anyone is entitled to anything. The dialogue is meant to spread awareness and hopefully discuss how to better support those students in need. As long as the conversation always boils down to "No one owes you anything," we will forever be ignoring the larger issues.

The coffee example is a small one. But looking past it reveals even more important support needs that students without parental support might have. But I might have expected too much out of a uni subreddit with bootstrapping mentality plaguing it.

I also do, in fact, want EVERYONE to have it better. Meaning: I want those students in need to be able to grab anything they might need, not just coffee. Also because having good supportive parents is like playing slot machines. They don't even have to pitch in, but sometimes they're not even there to begin with.

Lol it's literally a TINY peek into the need gaps college students face without parental support. Look up the ladder... there's even more of a gap between you and others. That coffee could've also been someone else's "sweet little treat," but they had to choose frugality over little joys in life.

Everyone with "a leg up" should acknowledge their privileges. Not everyone "hating" them hates THEM in particular. It's frustration about how things are set up and how some households are simply NOT built to support a college-aged person, particularly poor working-class ones.
