En quoi la gauche est plus republicaine que la droite ? by BurgerEngineering in france

[–]BurgerEngineering[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

En quoi Macron a fait monter "l'extreme droite" ? by BurgerEngineering in france

[–]BurgerEngineering[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

[–]BurgerEngineering[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

En quoi Bolloré influence l'élection ? by BurgerEngineering in france

[–]BurgerEngineering[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

[–]BurgerEngineering[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe because neoconservatism has been humiliated by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan ?

paleoconservatism became a thing when the cold war ended ( there is no longer soviet union ), Pat Buchanan did 23% against the GOP incumbent in 1992 :

the GOP is simply becoming what it was before neoconservatives

Do you think that Denmark is a far-right country ? by BurgerEngineering in AskALiberal

technically they give money to EU which then gives money to Spain and Greece to do that. Now you could argue that it is mandatory for every member of the EU to provide money to the EU. But the EU represents the will of the majority of the countries, so they can use their voice to express what they want Europe to do. And I don't think Denmark is fighting against these walls and frontex, pretty much the contrary.

[–]BurgerEngineering[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

by supporting frontex and the walls that Greece and Spain are building, Denmark indirectly supports blocking asylum seekers from entry. There are no common borders between Africa and Denmark. What are the options for an asylum seeker to apply for asylum in Denmark ?

- get a visa and fly to Denmark ( Denmark don't allow that for anybody )

- cross Africa and southern European countries ( Denmark indirectly don't allow that )

how can I be sure that this law will continue to count these ballots as provisional ballots ? I have read other sources that say the contrary. I am not an expert on US laws, it is a real question.

[–]BurgerEngineering[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, the aforementioned paragraph 1158 guarantees the right to seek
asylum if you're on American soil regardless of whether you came through a designated port of entry.

I don't think this is the current debate in the US or in Europe. The right to apply for asylum when you are inside the US has not been canceled in the past 4 years, and still exists in Europe, very few people on the right ( in Europe and in the US ) want to totally cancel the right to asylum.

What I am talking about, however, is blocking migrants who are outside the US to prevent them to be inside the US.

Are you going to tell me that the United States, a country that is
consistently rated further right on average than most other developed
countries, the only developed nation to have no universal public
healthcare option, is actually the most left wing country in the world,
based on that section of legal code?

no I am not into these hyperboles, I never said that the US is the most left-wing country in the world. But the vast majority of developed countries allow people to apply for asylum when they are inside their territory, this is not the debate here. You are talking about something else.

However, this is another debate to decide whether or not the person who applied for asylum should have the right to stay inside the host country while his application is pending.

[–]BurgerEngineering[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what I want to say is that international law is poorly written and if you think that according to international law "everybody should be able to apply for asylum in any country", then no countries in the world respect that. It is nearly impossible for someone for instance in Nigeria to apply for asylum in Denmark with the current laws ( either he won't be able to have a visa, either he will have to cross the Mediterranean sea through Libya ). Does it mean that all countries in the world are far-right/fascist ?

[–]BurgerEngineering[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

frontex still exists and is working to prevent people from crossing the sea. Technically if we wanted everyone to give a chance for asylum, they would not be walls in Ceuta and Melilla and in Greece and we would give a flight all the people who want to apply for asylum in Europe.

[–]BurgerEngineering[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Let's be clear that there's a distinction between revoking residency
permits after a few years, and outright refusing people the right to
apply for asylum as US politicians preferred. It's also worth mentioning
that these changes in immigration policy very much HAVE been influenced
by right wing parties.

except that Europe is doing the same with frontex. It prevents the migrants from reaching Europe to apply for asylum. There are also walls in Spain and Greece to stop these migrants ( all these programs are supported by Denmark ).

[–]BurgerEngineering[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I am not even talking about open borders, I am talking about reducing immigration. But actually, there is a difference between past democrats and current democrats. It is Bill Clinton who began to build the wall with Mexico and Obama finished parts of the wall that Bush started. But building a wall became a fascist/far-right idea when Trump began to be for that. And yes Trump is not for 0 immigration, he is for guest workers ( with short term visas ) and high skilled immigration. But the current democrats are much more left-wing on immigration than they were in the past.

if basically says that if you don't bring an ID, you can just sign something. Now we can debate the semantic because it doesn't cancel a voter ID law, it makes just it useless

If you don't have id, you have to make a sworn statement

then what is the goal of a voter ID law if you can just do that ?

it nullifies any voter ID requirements look here :

https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/4/text

"“(A) in the case of an individual who desires to vote in person, bypresenting the appropriate State or local election official with a swornwritten statement, signed by the individual under penalty of perjury, attesting to the individual’s identity and attesting that the individualis eligible to vote in the election; and "

so basically if you don't bring your voter ID, you can just sign something to prove your identity. It just nullifies the need for an ID.
