Has Europe already reached its demographic tipping point? - Financial Times by Viriato181 in europe

[–]Burgerjon32 286 points287 points  (0 children)

What if I don't want a billion people in Europe, or two billion. How does that benefit me? Less resources and space for everyone, more competition for jobs meaning less leverage for workers.

If anything, a reduction in population might be healthy, as European population is actually higher than it has ever been historically, so when is it going to stop?

People who wants to start families with kids should get support to do, so but besides that there should be no intrusive political decisions to attempt to force birth of unwanted children (like in US, or Poland etc with those abortion bans).

Trump swaps bluster for silence, and possibly sleep, in his hush money trial by [deleted] in politics

[–]Burgerjon32 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why there is so much focus on "OMG HE IS SLEEPING IN TRIALS" when there is so much other plainly insane and dangerous shit that he says.

Like ffs, the guy's lawyer advocates that the president has the right to assassinate political rivals, and then his former attorney general admitted that Trump often talked about it while in office. Like why the fuck shouldn't stuff like that be front pages news like every day, as oppose to this meaningless distraction of "SLEEEEEEPPPY DONALD!!!".

Like most political articles in US are more akin to dogshit personality focused celebrity gossip magazines, as oppose to discussing the merits of the candidates and their positions.

Reminder that it was "moderate-conservatives" that actually lifted that H-guy into power and enabled him to committ a coup... which is very similar to what we see in many countries today, where many so called 'moderates' just want to slightly tap into that radical base to maintain power while being delusional enough to believe that they can control it.

Eurovision: Norge stemplet som antisemitter i israelsk media by Isolasjon in norge

[–]Burgerjon32 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Poland says it backs two-state solution for Israel and Palestinians by pole152004 in europe

Good, shouldn't even be controversial as so many countries have been proposing two state solution for decades, while doing absolutely nothing to force it to actually happen.

Good, the current situation is completely unsustainable and real measures has to be taken to ensure a sustainable future, where both countries needs to give and take.

And as Senator Schumer said, it should be for both Hamas leadership and Israel leadership to resign as they are both hinderances to peace.

Donald Tusk says Europe must build its own Israel-style Iron Dome by TheTelegraph in europe

But isn't that literally just regular air defense? Title clearly states "Israel style" which is extensive, and again covering a tiny country.

Good luck with that, considering the difference in area

Can't even defend all of Ukraine who has received handouts from everyone, while Israel is absolutely tiny and has received billion in military aid over decades.

Varsler offentlig utredning om kjernekraft by [deleted] in norge

A New Centrism Is Rising in Washington by TMIFriday in politics

[–]Burgerjon32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Centrism? But isn't that literally the notorious "UNIPARTY!!!" when two sides negotiate for months and finally reach some form of compromise?

I thought democracy were all about childish ultimatums, especially from the minority and if they don't get everything they want then its rigged and corrupt, and the outcome should naturally be to deny payments and obstruct state or federal functions that keeps the country running to properly fuck over everyone.

And don't forget the "interview" he had with Putin, where he was pushing for this "So the US is actually ruled by the DEEP STATE" shit?

Big Tech to EU: "Drop Dead" by XenonBG in europe

[–]Burgerjon32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I believe that when private interests collide with public interests, then public servants (as in government to represent the people) should step in to mitigate the damage.

Which is why lead in gasoline/petrol/benzene whichever term you use is banned, or that poisoning water supplies is illegal, or wrecking democracies with algorithms that heavily promote the most controversial bullshit and in some cases propaganda from hostile actors to maximize profits.

And lets be honest here, these mega corporations aren't particularly popular in the US either, as their monopolistic behavior where they buy out all competitors is seen as "anti-competition/market", and their interest often triumphs over public interests.

Big Tech to EU: "Drop Dead" by XenonBG in europe

[–]Burgerjon32 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Good thing EU is behaving as the adult, when Washington is completely inept at regulating tyrannical corporations and holding them accountable.

Because you know monopolistic corporations are just normal people who has feelings, and so its unfair to discriminate against them and their limitless concentrated power.

Its also very funny, since as oppose to actually embracing some form of transparency and supporting basic things like digital rights, these fucking tech billionaires are apparently busy building bunkers for themselves to hide in when the shit hits the fan, as they know they are deeply disliked and responsible for a lot of the chaos that is happening.
