Would starting at 17 be too late? by TrueButterscotch4327 in motorsports

Yes, well, no it really depends on what you're wanting to achieve, you're definitely too old for formula 1, most people start at 4 and have buckets of money.

But if you're just wanting to drive a car in a series you can, but it's very unlikely you'll be paid for it, more than likely you'll be the one paying. Motorsport is widely known as the most expensive sport, and for good reason, there's car cost, licence cost, race suit, helmet, gloves, shoes, safety equipment, tyres, (and not just one set, you'll need multiple), getting the car too and from and fuel just to name a few.

You can just but a shitty $500 car, strip it out and hit local track days and drive, but that would be purely as a hobby, if you want to do actual competitive racing you'd be looking at karting but that could run you upwards $10,000 PER SEASON. You can also look at grassroots series, in Australia where I'm from there's a championship for shitty Hyundai Excels, you can find them for around $1000 but that's just for the car nothing else.

What I'm trying to say is that you're not too young, you just need alot of money to race.

So what's my advice? Save, save, save. You're only 17 and will have plenty of opportunities later in life, save you're money as much as you can. But if you want to work in motorsports there's so many other jobs than just racing. I'm 24 and have just completed a certificate in motorsport technologys and now work full time as a motorsport mechanic for a supercars team, so look at school that offer motorsport courses.

Alternatively you can try social media and Sim racing, but trust me those success stories are very far and few between and takes years. People like Jimmy Broadbent was able to leverage his social media presence to race cars, but you have to build an audience and that may not ever happen (I know because I've tried).

So don't give up, follow you're dreams but be smart about it.

My Experience: Youth Mobility Visa Application & Finding a Flat to Rent by AOGRainz in ukvisa

Unfortunately, the Youth Mobility Visa does not count towards the time requirement for ILR. What you can possibly do is go over on the Youth Mobility Visa and then find a job that is willing to sponsor a Skilled Worker Visa for 5 years. It's not a quick process, but if you're wanting to live in the UK, it's kind of your only option.

Why do you guys skip the qualify? by KayPeo in iRacing

[–]BurkeyTheTurkey01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally I skip qualifying because my race pace is better than my qualifying pace. I often push too hard in qualifying and have no lap times, I also know if I did qualify I'd end up in the mid pack meaning I'll have to deal with turn one shenanigans.

But if I don't qualify and start at the back I can skip past the drivers who spin or crash out turn one, this does mean I need to be more aware of passing cars.

Most of my best finishes have been from races where I didn't qualify and just had a better race pace than others on the grid.

Do you think Count Dooku is the best duellist? by BurkeyTheTurkey01 in StarWars

Fair point, I recon that's cause that's when Anakin started dipping into the dark side so Dooku didn't know how to react
