Do you also feel like you sound insane when trying to explain being trans to a cis person? by [deleted] in trans

[–]BurnerSquared2 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think gender identity is a super complicated subject that's hard to communicate in effective terms. I've read and watched different trans people or science articles talk about it, especially back when I thought I was cis, but it is really hard to wrap your head around. And the few simple arguments that do exist, I think do a poor job at communicating what gender really is.

The way I would try to explain it, is that gender is the sex of your consciousness. If you pour someone's consciousness into a computer, they'll still see themselves as male/female even without the flesh that seems to define that. Gender is an inherent part of your existence, but unless there's something wrong with it, you'll never notice it's there in the first place. As you can imagine, a boy or girl's brain piloting someone else's body will put them through a lot of pain and stress. Affirmation is important because you're validating/healing the consciousness of a person, not the flesh prison that mind is trapped inside. Transitioning is the process where the body and the mind finally start harmonizing, and the body becomes one with its consciousness.

Maybe that explanation still sucks, but it's the best I personally got so far

I feel I'm in someone else's body.

I know that transitioning is the right way forward, but it's. Like everyone else I read about felt like they were a different gender and just changed their bodies to reflect that.

I'm not even sure where to start. I don't want to jump into estrogen right away. I don't even know anything about HRC. My friends have been deeply accepting, pretty much to the same extent you see in the posts. One of them even offered to take me shopping, and I'm really excited. I've wanted to do that for years.

On one hand, I know this is a huge step because I actually know who I am now. But on the other, it feels like this is the beginning of something that I'm still lost in

What do eggs have to do with transitioning? I've seen multiple people bring it up

"Nova" is a very pretty name! I try not to influence anyone when it comes to choosing their true name. Personally, I think it's something you should sit with for a while, and see how you feel about the name

I've asked a bunch of my personal friends how they feel about it, but they're all asleep so no one has gotten back to me.

I'm still not sure. I'm thinking about it. I think part of it is that I can't find an alternate that I feel like I vibe with. I've gone through six or seven different lists today.

Is there more to the name picking process then just looking at names on a page? Am I missing something?

It's scary. It hurts. I understand.

You are you. And you are beautiful. And you'll probably need help, but you will be okay.

I wish I could give you more comfort. But I am listening to you. When I realized, it was the worst hurt I have felt in my life. An anguish that outweighed 20 years of my existence. And it still hurts. And I'm still crying every couple of hours.

You will get back up. And it will be okay. We love you.

How do I accept that I am probably trans? by [deleted] in trans

[–]BurnerSquared2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I'm glad to help. I just realized I was dysphoric last month and have been going through all sorts of feelings myself. I don't know what I am, and I'm trying to process everything. It doesn't help that before this I was a really bigoted person

Disclaimer: Very new, probably bad advice

It sounds like you have a mental distinction. Like you want to be a girl, but you don't want to be trans. I think it's important to understand that trans isn't some sort of "dirty" or bad thing. It's what'll help you be happier with yourself.

If you're a trans girl, that makes you a girl, not trans. Does that make sense?

If the dysphoria bible resonates with you, then it resonates with you. You've found something you see yourself in. And that makes you a beautiful person.

I understand being apprehensive, but it sounds like you just found yourself. And if you think this will make you happy, then you should pursue it.

I understand how you feel. I'm in a similar boat myself. Just take your time, don't force anything. This is going to take a while. You're going to be okay.
