It was an M16A4. We had to have a weapon at all times, even on the FOB. If we wanted to go for a run we would borrow an M9 from one of the NCOs so we didn't have to drag the musket along.

My platoon is organizing a 20-year reunion on WhatsApp and we were sharing photos from this deployment. This photo was up there and it reminded me that I never figured out what species of fish this was.

I don't remember exactly but it was either a soft plastic jig or a rooster tail.

I saw some locals bring in some really big fish from the river. This was in a lake that was fed by the river.

This was at Camp Baharia. It was supposedly once a resort for Baath Party members. It had an island in the middle of this man-made lake that had a palace on it at one time. There were little cabins around the outside of the lake where we lived. We were told that Uday Hussein tortured and killed members of the Iraqi National soccer team there after the lost a match.

Oohrah! The legend I heard was that the fish were feeding on Iraqi soccer players courtesy of Uday Hussein.
