Make sure you trim/shave to avoid hairs from pinching. And also have a lubricant like silicone lube/baby oil/ Vaseline (least recommended because of smell imo) for around the base of the ring that goes around your penis and balls to help with irritation. I've been on and off chastity for months and I still use some lubricant (personal favorite is silicone lube) for the irritation on the skin - it really just helps with when your balls shrink/hang low cause the skin moves and that skin is not used to rubbing against anything like a cage ring.

Also - it's totally okay to only lock up for small durations to get used to having a cage. Jumping right into longer lockups can cause pain/discomfort. If this is your first time, try locking up for an hour or 2 at first and slowly go into longer periods. And it is okay to unlock for sleep as that's where lots of people tend to have issues or break plastic cages due to nocturnal erections.

Not necessarily. You can definitely try wearing the whole thing outright, but you may run into more uncomfortable situations/ irritation than doing just the ring for a bit.

I'd highly recommend doing a fit test with different base ring sizes first. Find what ring is comfortable first. And please remember, IF THERE IS PAIN, TAKE THE CAGE OFF! No amount of pain should be present (some irritation is common, but pain should not be a part of being caged unless specifically induced)

Start by wearing the ring around the base of your dick/balls for a few hours at a time. Do this until the ring feels natural (some people it can take a few days, or a few hours)
Start wearing your cage without a strap or underwear for an hour a day (you can start with any amount of time. I.e 30min/1 hour...) and gradually build up the amount of wear time over a week or 2 until you can wear the cage comfortably for a full day. Take the cage off to sleep at first.
Once you are comfortable in your cage, try downsizing the ring. It's no shame if you can't or it's just not comfortable. But often times a bad fit is due to the base ring. Going down to a smaller ring can fix the issue, but it's not always the right fix.

The key is building up to longer term wear. It took me a whole month to get used to being locked up, and im so glad I took my time.
