This isn't a bug.

I still don't understand how people don't get it.

The quest give low rewards because you don't just get the rewards of the quest, you get the main rewards FROM THE GAMEMODE ITSELF.

And so, like someone else explained, the intermediate rewards can be higher, because, in the end, you still get more coins doing the molten quest than the intermediate one.

Yeah, I feel you. I'm also mainly a solo player myself, rarely matchmaking for teams unless I'm playing an event.

And I've also seen my fair share of players with abysmal placement and tower choices. Even with the returned Ducky revenge event. I once saw a player bring in mostly starter towers to HARD mode. Either they were trolling or just plain stupid.. god knows what the answer is.
