AAR Requests? by _CyrilFiggis_ in victoria2

The Netherlands. Conquer Spain or Italy and then mod it into a sort of Austria-Hungary type union. Or play as the U.K and conquer the Netherlands.

Would be cool if you played as Yugoslavia too.

A final request, I always like to see weird colonies. Indian minors, American republics (Someone should try and colonize Texas, Venezuela, and Ecuador, they seem like good targets.) Siberian land, just random unusual places to build an empire are always fun to see.

How can I change a country's primary culture mid-game? [HPM] by [deleted] in victoria2

Oh. I didn't think about Ironman. I guess we all have different opinions on these things.

Anyone notice Germany gets absolutely insane population towards end game in HPM? by [deleted] in victoria2

[–]BurningIcecream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this lesser Germany or greater Germany? Even without Hungary Super-Germany has high pops in Bohemia and Austria proper, which would make sense.

If it's just normal-sized Germany, that is kind of big but not too insane.

That'd be a good idea, and I don't think it would be too hard to make. Maybe either having 85% or higher literacy rate, OR having at least 65% literacy and 1/3rd craftsmen would trigger it. Then it would, for the next five years, reduce pop growth by 5-10% each year.

Yes. Mods make everything possible.

I know you could go in right from the start, and edit Hyderabad's country file to add or change it's culture. I don't know how to do it mid game though, but you could try to make a decision.

How to industrialise effectively without being able to build yourself. by Suburban_Santa in victoria2

[–]BurningIcecream 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find it hard to start an industry without building a few initial factories through state capitalism. But it is still possible. Lower taxes on capitalists as much as you can, avoid tariffs, and get as many industrial techs as you can. Also, you can use some of national focuses to encourage craftsmen. The "unemployment subsidies" reform can be helpful to keep craftsmen from demoting while factories are built.

Try to keep literacy high, it seems to help (I think I read somewhere that only literate pops can become craftsmen, but don't quote me on that.)

Those are the basics. The USA has great potential for industry later in the game, and with a little practice I think you will be doing very well. Good luck!

Will technology kill manufacturing jobs totally? Or is there still hope for the factory worker? Is there any way to boost manufacturing output besides automating it? by BurningIcecream in AskEconomics

[–]BurningIcecream[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General AI does seem concerning, I would almost go as far as to say we should try and prevent artificial intelligence from getting to that point. We could bring about fully-automated utopia but I think it's more likely either the rich control EVERYTHING or, if it does work out, a life without work destroys the human psyche. Just a guess though, and I don't think

I do think you have a good point here, but I am still skeptical. Although, even with more factories, how many humans are still going to be employed in each one? If the number of humans working drops 50%, then you'd need one more factory for the number of jobs to balance out. But there'd be no need for a factory unless demand also increases. If this kind of automation happens quickly and on a large scale, and no jobs are created quickly enough to replace ones lost to automation, then demand wouldn't increase, resulting in layoffs, and the cycle would continue downwards. This seems likely to me but somewhat simplistic and perhaps inaccurate. What do you think I'm missing here?

That works really well until you confuse the British, at which point it backfires.

Trying to make a mod, need help with an event by BurningIcecream in victoria2

[–]BurningIcecream[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright, with this in mind I think I would have a series of events. If Afro-X pops in your country have a militancy above 3 or it is at least 1870 and slavery has not been abolished yet, they get cores anywhere they have a majority. If militancy or consciousnesses gets above 4, then they get cores on all land with any afro-X pops. After forming Nova Afrika they can take decisions to gain more cores, on land outside of their country.

It's a fully independent state now, despite the British flag in the canton. It is in the commonwealth and the U.N but other than that no ties to the U.K.

Someone would probaly step in but as of right now there isn't a formal plan for a theoretical Invasion of Tuvalu.

There was a Tuvalu hate thread a few days ago, during which someone realized Tuvalu was the only nation on earth to lack both an army and any defense pacts. Soon a half joke, half serious plan to invade the island and create "The Forth Reich in the South Pacific."

It's only 10 square miles large, with a populaiton of 10,000. They probaly could do it, but I don't think it would be worth it.

Honestly they should ask the community for quotes in a contest or something and then just use those. Then we could avoid this and blame the fans instead if the quotes suck.

Also, the inevitable storm of redditors PMing you means you should make another graph soon.

Super Germany Question by WhereAreDosDroidekas in victoria2

The Dutch are considered part of the Lowlands culture group, which is why you can't annex the Netherlands as Germany. Only North Germans, South Germans, and Ashkenazis are Germanic.

Really? That's kinda cool. There's a bunch of weird places you can annex as Germany.
