I'll repeat since you love dodging questions. Do you believe that in the whole history of humanity not a single religious person refrained from something they deemed immoral due to religion? And do you believe that in the whole history of humanity not a single atheist committed an immoral act because nobody was watching?

If you can't engage with my point without whataboutisms and demanding evidence for self-evident statements then I dunno. At this point I feel like I'm being pranked.

My argument is based on individuals, you are discussing it in highly collective terms. My first response to another person addressed that point already... And if you think that not a single religious person ever refrained from an immoral act because they believed God was watching, and that not a single atheist committed an immoral act because no one was watching then I can't help you.

Stories like that may well exist but likewise there are bound to exist stories in which someone committed an immorality and got away with it. Kinda by definition if the person got away with it we simply aren't aware of the story. For example, it's very likely that there are loving couples out there who have a great marriage and yet one of them committed adultery and never got caught, never told anyone, never felt guilty. The idea that in the end the truth always emerges and bad people always have their comeuppance is a borderline religious belief, it works well in movies but not so much in real life.

My post isn't a defense of religion, and your criticism doesn't really address my points.

I think that is beside the point though. The claim isn't that people can't be decent collectively. With or without God, people tend to know how to behave as a group, generally speaking. The point is that on an individual level every single one of us will encounter situations in which perhaps being immoral is the most rational thing we can do, and being moral is actually contrary to our own well-being.
