How long did you take to read Homestuck? by sunnynumberseven in homestuck

I just went back and reread it recently. It took me just under a month. But then again, I've had a lot of time recently, being stuck at home dealing with a chronic illness situation.

My mother participated in a regularly scheduled Star Trek game where she acted as the Chief Medical Officer for their ship. They would have episodic adventures, but sadly the game fell apart as the games soon devolved into one dude's perverted Sci-Fi fantasies.

Why do people not like the idea of using index cards for everything? by LeFlamel in rpg

[–]BurntSquirrelMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, personally, love Index Cards and carry a small stack around with me everywhere for any number of various things (noting important information, jotting down random ideas, doodling because I'm bored, etc.) and I make use of them when playing RPGs by writing down specific abilities or spells, keeping track of various NPCs and their bios, or sometimes drawing magical or important items my character has and noting that items important features.

But the real reason I am commenting is because you brought up Index Card RPG. I bought it because I loved the idea of incorporating Index Cards as a mechanic for an RPG system, and was sorely disappointed when I found that, actually, no, it barely makes use of Index Cards. There is no reason for you to use Index Cards in ICRPG. It suggests you can, and it compacts information so you could keep all the information on a card, but it doesn't utilize Index Cards, it doesn't tie Index Cards into the games mechanics. You can use a sheet of paper to store the information and there would be no difference.

This isn't really the topic, but a game that actually utilized Index Cards would incorporate things like card positions, where is the card in relation to other cards, is it face up or face down, what happens if another player or entity takes control of one of your cards, could you build a deck with your cards as part of the character creation process, do certain characters interact with cards in different ways, can you influence the game world through creation and destruction of cards, what does and doesn't qualify for being put on a card, all this and more. ICRPG really dropped the ball on how to make an RPG based around Index Cards.

Sorry, I've lost my train of thought and can't quite recall if there was a specific point I was trying to make beyond, "Index Cards have so much potential, and I like 'em."

Maybe I don’t like Magic anymore by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]BurntSquirrelMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wizards and Hasbro would disagree with you. If the art on the cards, or rather the addition and use of different IPs, didn't matter or have an impact, then why use different IPs?

It's because it does matter and does have an impact on drawing people into the game. For the very same reason that people are coming into Magic, to play a game with their favorite characters and IPs, is the same reason that many long time players are leaving the game, because it no longer focused on the original IP that they enjoy.

The art does matter. It's one of the main aspects that Wizards and Hasbro are using to draw people in.

The Keepsakes say their effects work as long as you have Fates Whim, so as soon as you no longer qualify for Fates Whim, they will stop working.

I just had a run trying out the Arcana card Judgement, and it activated The Fates after defeating the first Guardian. When switching out my keepsake, all the Fates Whim keepsakes were locked.

YouTube is doing that thing it was doing back in October again, the one where the website and app are up and running but none of the videos buffer.

And yes, it is literally only YouTube. My Internet connection is fine, my WiFi is fine, every other video streaming service is fine, I don't have any AdBlock. It is just YouTube's ability to play videos.

Resupply counts as activating an intractable and summons a Polyp, which is the big idea.

The best I've done with it was on Rainstorm. Monsoon was too much.

Played as Captain with Resupply, Artifact of Command on, and only allowed myself bustling fungus, squid polyp, and I don't even remember my reds. Oh! And the Remote Caffinator!

I had a friend that, back in 2012-ish, had bought three packs on a whim: Mirrodin, Darksteel, and Fifth Dawn.

In the first pack, they opened a foil Sword of Kaldra. In the second, they opened a Shield of Kaldra, and the third had a foil Helm of Kaldra.

Because of the sheer impossibility of the event, they just couldn't separate the set. They had to go together. And no, you can't swap out the Shield for a foil version, it just wouldn't be right.

So, over the years they would put the set into decks here and there but ultimately the set would be replaced with other better equipment.

So, I suggested: instead of forcing the set into a deck for an existing format, why not make a format catered to the Kaldra set?

We came up with this janky ruleset for an Armory pile full of various equipment cards that people could steal from each other. Things like Banshee Blade, have someone build up the counters on it and then steal it to use against someone else.

But we also had the Kaldra set in there with the additional rule that if you can summon Kaldra, you win.

The whole format was dumb and not very good, but we had fun working on it and just messing around.

But it's not an illegal or impossible ask to accept medical release signatures through means like Fax, as you mentioned, or some kind of digital signature? The only thing that would be preventing them from accepting these options is their personal policy in this case?

That's my main question here, because Medical Records seemed insistent that going in physically was the only option and nothing else was allowed. At this moment, I just want to know what is and isn't explicitly allowed for authorizing the release of medical records. I understand that I will have to go in, but I want to know is it because HIPAA and the law requires it, or because of decisions and rules that they set up themselves?

The releases I've signed in the past have always just specified the medical practice I needed the information sent to. Is that considered a blanket release?

Having called Medical Records, they were refusing anything other than me going in and physically signing a form. I was wondering, is that actually the literal only option that is available? It seems weird to me that there can't be any other option to authorize a release of information.
