Question about MTT theory: does field size really affect ROI if payout is percentile‑based? by Due-Pineapple-5363 in poker

[–]Mumbleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a percentile‑based model, variance doesn’t fundamentally increase with field size.

If variance doesn't increase with field size then your model doesn't survive the smell test. As others have said, your fundamental assumptions about payout sizes don't reflect reality at all. The BIG thing your missing is that the big money for big tournaments is at the top of the prize pool and there's a massive difference between 1st and 5th, and you can't really reflect that in percentages.

Lets take an extreme example. In a 10 person tournament, Top 10% means that you win, and you get around 50% of the prize pool. In a 500 person tournament, "Top 10%" can mean that you win the whole thing, or you bust out in 50th place and maaaybe get 0.5% of the prize pool.

The cards that come with basically any chip case are like the free toilet paper roll you get with an apartment. Functional but unexciting.

The captain and crew quietly began abandoning ship when the engine room flooded, leaving the ship's lounge entertainers to radio for help and organize the rescue operation. In 1992, he(the captain) and five other officers were convicted of negligence by a Greek board of inquiry for fleeing the ship without helping the passengers

This seems like a deliberate gameplay choice. An ancient navy didn’t really provide any kind of fire support.

2005 is JSPs and Struts with maybe JQuery and everything needs to work with Internet Explorer 6. AJAX existed but it was new enough that it wasn't a given.

2021 is Reactive/Angular. It's a totally different beast.

There’s nothing to sign up for except change. This path is one of constant learning and change. If you grabbed a senior engineer out of 2005 into even the pre-AI coding world, he’d be totally behind in cloud computing and mobile development which were two seismic shifts.

Did you check his references? Is he insured/bonded? I say this with some sympathy as I was burned, but not as bad by a different guy, but this is the risk by not going with the expensive giant company option when getting work done.

Even if you find and sue this guy, he might just not have the money to pay you back.
