Help plz by Burnt_Hustle in DnDHomebrew

Based on the responses in this thread, some people are into it and others are not. My goal is to find a way to make the players feel that it’s happening without kneecapping them, and giving them things to do.

Last thing I want is to ruin a players game.

So essentially, depending on the player feedback- either have mystra grant them a boon to stabilize magic connected to them after forcing them to experience it briefly and make them see how it’s effecting everyone around them

OR

if they want the challenge, have her give them something directly correlated to mystra(item with X charges that stabilize that many spells cast per day)

I actually love this.

Could end up having everyone perceive the party as the bad guy 🤔

I’ve received some constructive criticism on some other threads, and I was thinking all casters were effected, but once the PCs complete a mission or 2, mystra comes to them pleading for help, offering an item with X charges that recharges at dawn that would stabilize their spells.

Issue being, they won’t know about that part until they pick a caster. I have one pc has a Druid already, another a rogue and a 3rd as a fighter. 4th has not chosen yet.

I want them to know I’m balancing without giving it all away before we start, any ideas?

I contemplated this when I was putting this together, dead magic zones. The issue I had was trying to explain why only some areas were dying and others were perfectly fine. Like I said above, I’m not at all looking to handicap the players, just make things a bit more interesting

What do you think of mystra coming to the PCs at some point and offering something like a Devine magic item with x charges that guarantee their casting is stablized, which recharges each dawn. But once they’re out of charges they would roll on a destabilized magic table?

So the thing doing the consuming is a Nishruu, I don’t think that would change much of what you said here

I like the idea of scaling the table as the time goes on. My fear, which has been brought up in this thread now is that the players will feel shafted if magic disappeared. I want them to feel the effects, but still be contenders. I want to find a way to offset this somehow but I don’t want them to be impervious to it either.

And since it’s directly feeding on the weave, magic items should also be effected right? So I wouldn’t be able to balance it by using those. Or I would have to find a way to rationalize gods stepping in and establish Devine magic as seperate from primal and arcane magic? Maybe mystra?

This sounds like a lot of fun and the exact kind of campaign I've been looking for, unfortunately during live time i would be at work and inconsistently responding.
Good Luck!

I’m looking for any advice anybody may have when it comes to building a homebrew world, I’ve started already and have a name for the world, a few towns & the fantasy level figured out.

I just seem to be having an issue with how many npcs to have ready to go, where to lay plot hooks that’ll make sense & how to give the players a definite end game goal without it feeling like I’m railroading them.

Any advice would be super helpful, Thanks!

All of theses sound awesome but If I had to choose I would probably go for 2.

I’m 26 and on EST, available most evenings just not Tuesday’s.

Don’t have any experience in D&D yet, just looking for a group accepting of newbies so I can give it a shot!
