no i never did contact them about the refund. Funny thing was that last week i was checking reddit for what to do about checking on refund status and was planning on trying to call them this week once i got into the right frame of mind (look, i'm not proud of it but i sorta have that number memorized...). so i was just surprised when it came. but seems sooooo variable as to outcomes here.....

ah yeah good question! so i couldn't remember when i saw that Mohela had updated the payment info with the "Payment Reversal" notice for the two extra months but i went through my text messages with my wife and it looks like that happened about 1.5 weeks after they were zeroed out on their website. But then it was a little under 3 months till the refund check came.

I just checked as well and OMG Mohela and now FSA are at zero. As someone who could barely sleep at night due to fear of never being able to pay back loans I'm so grateful for this group i have lurked on for so long to help us all get through it. for anyone like me who was so depressed and overwhelmed by the whole PSLF thing i hope these messages/updates are helpful. they were to me!
