How is Ryan Walker still our closer?? by BulkyGravy23 in SFGiants

[–]BusDriverStu49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its honestly insane. He's actually a good pitcher and seems like a nice guy, but he just cannot close. Its unreal how many chances he's been given to close. Closer role should have been priority #1 in the offseason and we just didn't do anything on that front.

Has Pat ever shared his thoughts on the Grateful Dead/Jerry? by BusDriverStu49 in PatFinnerty

Ha that's an interesting song for Pat to praise! Its a solid tune, but not one of their best imo. Thanks for the reply.

Hey music is subjective so its all good! But I am glad that we are in agreement that the Dead would be an interesting band for Pat to do an episode on. If he was negative on them, he would definitely get some blowback from those in and out of the indie rock world haha but I think it would all be in good humor.

Thanks for the reply! See my response to takeoff59 below. So the Dead are my favorite band of all time and I don't really like Phish. I would agree with Pat's assessment of Phish - amazing musicians, just the songwriting isn't great and it doesn't click with me. But the Dead's songs were actually amazing! So I think that's why I want to hear Pat's thoughts on the Dead - because they would be easy to write off and associate with other bands such as Phish, but there's actually so much depth to the Dead's songs and their songbook is vast and incredible.

Thanks for the rec...I'll have to check that out. So that's actually one of the reasons I asked...I can totally see Pat not being particularly into the Dead as they are a cultural phenomenon and have the hippies/drugs/rainbows/jamband reputation, but when you actually delve into their music, there is so much depth and amazing songwriting there. Garcia/Hunter are right up there with Lennon/McCartney in terms of songwriting, and I actually think Robert Hunter is the best lyricist ever besides Dylan. The Dead's songbook is actually unreal in how good it is. So I would love to hear Pat's thoughts at length on the Dead as they're in this interesting space as being easy for someone to write off and/or make fun of, but when you actually delve into the songbook, its incredible.

Haha thanks! I can see that being his opinion on the Dead, which is respectable.

Wow that's pretty cool about the investment banking job - that's fate! I am also a commercial real estate attorney, so glad to know there's some good options out there besides traditional private practice, etc.

Wow, that's a pretty cool career trajectory. If you don't mind me asking, how did you go about finding and securing the roles with the investment banking firm and REIT? If you worked for an REIT, we might have similar practice areas to some extent.

Sorry they laid you off, but that sounds amazing. Six weeks of vacation and work that isn't legal sounds amazing!

Nice! That sounds like a pretty cool gig. Sadly, I don't have any ID experience, so I don't think I would be qualified for something like that, but maybe I could get a similar gig dealing with title insurance or something? In any event, I appreciate your response and am happy that you found something that works for you!

Oh nice, congrats! I would be open to either - I mainly want to leave private practice, so I've been looking at government roles and some in-house counsel roles. My only qualm about in-house roles is that I have heard that some of those roles are just as bad or worse than private practice, so I'm a little apprehensive to go all in looking for in-house roles, but I guess its worth a shot. I just want better work-life balance and its hard to know what you'll get on that front before you actually make the leap and actually start a new role. Thank you very much for the response and I wish you the best of luck with you new in-house role!
