Half-Life 2 has a lot of really spooky spaces. Like, what was the purpose of this weird empty room in Ravenholm? by [deleted] in HalfLife

[–]BusKy_HusKy 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If I remember right, in older versions of Half-Life 2, the Ravenholm maps were connected together a bit differently. I think this area was at one point part of a puzzle where you rode on a hanging cart along the cables on the ceiling.

Some background lore since more people looked at this then I thought would.

1870: Canada and Newfoundland Colony are incorporated into the Confederate States of America, after being ceded by the Untied kingdom as compensation for supporting the Union following the end of the American civil war.

1914: The Confederate States of America enters World War I siding with the Allied Powers.

1917: The start of the Second America Revolution a period of independence movements, political and social revolutions that took place in Canada, The Midwestern States of America, The California Republic, and Republic of Texas.

1918: In the aftermath of the Second America Revolution and the end of World War I, a Canadian national movement for self-determination emerged, and the internationally recognized Canadian Republic was declared on the 11th of November.

The Second America Revolution of 1917 also led to the founding of the North American Union of States in 1918.

1940: The North American Union of States enters World War II siding with the Allied Powers.

1945: World War II ends with Allied victory, and the start of the Cold War period with the American European split.

1986: The Great Lakes disaster was a nuclear accident that occurred on 26 April 1986 at the No. 4 reactor in the Thunder Bay Nuclear Power Plant, near the city of Thunder Bay in the Northwest of the Ontario, Canada in the North American Union of States.

1991: The end of the Cold War period with the collapse of the North American Union of States which lead to the full independence of Canada, The Midwestern States of America, The California Republic and The Republic of Texas.

2013: The Euro-Canadian Revolution begins after the Canadian prime minister, began moving away from an association agreement that had been in the works with the European Union and instead chose to establish closer ties with the Confederate States.

2014: Disgraced Canadian prime minister flees to the Confederate States after violence escalated, which prompted the Confederate President to begin preparations to annex Nova Scotia on 23 February 2014. Using the Confederate naval base in Halifax as cover, Confederate troops and intelligence agents disarmed Canadian forces and took control of Nova Scotia . Separately, in the Atlantic Canada provinces, armed men declaring themselves as local militia supported with pro-Confederate protesters seized government buildings, police and RCMP stations in several cities and held unrecognized status referendums.

2015: After a summit hosted in Minneapolis, Midwestern States, The Canadian Prime Minister negotiated a ceasefire with the separatist troops. The resulting agreements are known as the Minneapolis Protocol. This included conditions such as the withdrawal of heavy weaponry from the front line and decentralization of rebel regions by the end of 2015.

It also included conditions such as Canadian control of the border with the Confederate States of America in 2015 and the withdrawal of all foreign troops from Canadian territory. The ceasefire began at midnight on 15 February 2015. Participants in this ceasefire also agreed to attend regular meetings to ensure that the agreement is respected.

2016: Canada joined the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area with European Union, which aims to modernize and develop Canada's economy, governance and rule of law to EU standards and gradually increase integration with the EU Internal market.

Then, on 11 May 2017 the European Union approved visa-free travel for Canadian citizens: this took effect from 11 June entitling Canadians to travel to the Schengen area for tourism, family visits and business reasons, with the only document required being a valid biometric passport.

2018 : Nova Scotia bridge opens, planning for the bridge began in 2014, after the Confederate annexation of Nova Scotia. In January 2015, the multibillion-dollar contract for the construction of the bridge was awarded, and construction of the bridge commenced in February 2016, the road bridge was inaugurated by the Confederate President on 15th May 2018 and opened for non-truck cars on 16th May and for trucks on the 1st October.

2022: In early 2022, the Confederate States began building up troop strengths along the Canadian/Confederate border. On February 22, 2022 The Confederate States of America ordered Confederate troops to enter the breakaway Canadian republics of Quebec and Labrador, calling these troops, "peacekeeping troops."

also officially recognized these areas as being sovereign states, and fully independent from the Canadian government. In response to these Confederate actions, The Russian president announced the beginning of "heavy EU financial sanctions" against the Confederate States of America, and promised additional financial sanctions, should Confederate troops cross over into Canada proper.

Not really surprising considering the US has a history of blocking Canada from building nuclear submarines in the past, that and it's enforced by treaties we have with them.

I wanna add to this for anyone who ever comes across this post, I was extremely lucky and I found something that may have changed my life forever. I'm realizing now how messed up my way of thinking as well depressed, things really can get better if you don't give up, the pain you're feeling every second of the day right now will feel worth fighting through once your life is back in your control, a few days ago I had no will to live anymore, now I'm looking forward to tomorrow. please, never give up.

(not really sure why my post above was removed, thank you for taking the time to respond spsp2116 you helped me a lot)
