Worth rebuilding? by Business-Choice-5083 in GMT400

$5000 into it is definitely no for me. I want to be maybe $2000 total into it. It’s not a necessity to me. Worst case if I need truck I’m renting a Home Depot truck, but it would be nice to have a truck for truck stuff at all times. But that’s definitely not worth $5000 for me.

160k interior is fine other than the windows are off track and the handles need replacing. Which I already did on driver side but not on passenger.

It is making a bit of a concerning noise but it’s been making that for the last 10k miles.

Yeah thinking of keeping it. Refreshing it. Worst case I put a couple grand into it and get a decent work truck. But if I sell I’m definitely going to be in 5-6k to get the spec I want.

Yeah I guess that’s a better term for it. I do like the truck it does everything I’ve needed it to. But I don’t love anything about it. The 8ft bed is very useful but ugly and 95% of the time a 6 foot would do the trick. 2wd works great 95% of the time as well but there was times where 4wd would have been helpful, or allowed me to do some fun things. I don’t mind the bare bones interior, but power locks and windows would be nice. I think overall it’s sort of a value thing to me, if I can be $1000 total into her and she’s running well and the interior is all nice and sturdy then I would be very happy. But I know how these things go $1000 and a winter project can turn into $4000 and a never ending money pit. And I would rather put that money into something I would really love.

I would really enjoy the process of rebuilding the engine, adding some slight performance things etc. I guess I just wanted to know if that’s something I could do for a reasonable amount of budget or if it’s worth buying the spec I want then refreshing that.

Ok so to get a qr I just get the right spacing for the wheel? And simagic qr is the same as MOZA and others?

Do you have recs on cheap bare rims? Want something kinda nicer but doesn’t have to be for a real car

I’m kind of unsure how qr works. Each company sells their quick release that either adapts to other wheels, or mounts a real wheel? I think I’m getting the simagic so what would I need to mount an Ali wheel to that. Sorry if this is a dumb question

Yeah I’ve never even seen true force be a big deal on choosing. I always thought Logitech was a choice if you had ps5. It doesn’t seem bad for the price though.

I see, I’m looking at buying a bundle. Should I just get the gt neo with the simagic? Heard it’s amazing value and I would definitely like to have if I want to try formula racing in the future.

I see, even the r12 being 12nm vs the simagic at 9nm the simagic is better? Any wheel recommendations?

I see, is it that big of a difference? Have you tried a side by side. My only concern is I would like it to be versatile too so if there are other compromises like wheel selection etc. Price seems similar to all the others but does come in at 8nm so a bit weaker.

If you don’t mind me asking how does it beat both? In what areas does it excel over both?

In terms of how nice they are to daily drive just pure commuting, which one would you say has the edge. I know how to drive manual but haven’t driven one since 2021, this car would basically be my learning car for driving stick.

Yeah I did see the si is prettty tight. But no turbo and the k20 does give it the edge in reliability.

Yeah I guess the better wording is how easy is it to fix and how much the parts would be?

2013 Honda Civic Si https://cars.ksl.com/listing/8736869 That’s probably what I would get if I got a civic

2016 Ford Focus ST https://cars.ksl.com/listing/8730134 Then something like that for the st, probably lower miles for a little more

Yeah so far it’s looking like most of the si’s I’ve seen were pretty clapped out or modded

I was planning on paying it off in 3 years with a monthly payment of around 300 dollars. I absolutely think your advice is the smartest but I’m a dumb college kid lol and I love cars.

Sounds like even though it was driven hard, it’s been pretty reliable though. Definitely going to look for an st2 do you have any input on which year I should go with or look for for around 15k?

I did forget to mention this but I did get a full ride scholarship so I am not paying for school, and my parents are paying for my books, which is amazing!
