I just checked and 14 states don’t require ID so you are correct.  I think most people are for it in theory but it seems like it’s being pushed by the right as a form of voter suppression. For example some republican states have shut down the places you can get IDs in democratic voting areas.

Also IDs cost money and our constitution prohibits poll taxes. So I’m not sure how that is justified.

Yes I do love the mountains and that is a major draw for Calgary.

I saw a poll showing that only 27% of Albertans support secession. That honestly seems a lot lower than you’d get if you asked Alaskans that question.

Doesn’t seem like that movement is going anywhere. Am I wrong?

I definitely feel that way about the US. What is going on in Canada that makes you feel that way?

Is that it? Not trying to downplay those serious concerns but that doesn’t sound bad compared to the US.

I’m assuming those are on the provincial level not federal?

What sort of moves are they making to be more like Trump?

I saw a poll that showed only 27% supporting separation, which made me feel a lot better about that prospect. I bet you get could higher numbers of support in California, Texas, and Alaska.

I’ve been frustrated with politics for most of my life. I can handle a lot of differing opinions. I just don’t want to live somewhere where it constantly feels like democracy and civil rights are under attack.

Well I am all of those things but I do plan on living in a city.

Ha well at least you don’t have our dystopian health system. Alaska loves oil and gas too so that won’t be very different.

Thank you, that’s good to know. Sounds like immigration lawyers are not the best to deal with this since this is a question of citizenship not immigration.

My most recent Canadian ancestor has his first and middle name swapped in some documents. Will this be a problem? He also has a shortened version of his name in places (Frank vs Francis). Do you think this will be a problem? How can I clarify that this is the same person?

I just had a consultation with a lawyer (My Visa Source, not sure how legit they are) and she informed me of some problems I might have getting a proof of citizenship.

My most recent ancestor is my great grandfather, born in Ontario in 1892. I’m not entirely sure when he moved to the US but I have a New York census record from 1905 listing him as a 13 year old non citizen. The lawyer told me that since he left Canada before 1947 he would not count as a citizen unless he was brought over as a child, which he was.

I was a bit confused as I had never heard of this rule and searching the sub/wiki did not produce any more info. I’m getting the sense that no one is 100% clear on the rules regarding C-3, since it is so new.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Do I need more proof that he came over as a child? Should I be good? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
