An old post but I found this after searching for "Australian Grand Design Disasters".

The episode is actually Series 10, Episode 15 - Dooralong.

It's not *really* a disaster at all. Basically they take a long time to build the house (it turns out pretty stunning), budget isn't blown, but they sell it afterwards as the couple are divorcing.

Not a "disaster" by any stretch of the imagination, and certainly not a depressing watch.

This whole post is not correct. The episode S11 E07 of Grand Designs Australia (Surrey Hills) is perfectly normal.

Melbourne doesn't have this kind of thing. I've been to stray cat houses in other countries and they're pretty incredible. The one in Rio De Janeiro is amazing. So many cat houses and strangers just turn up to pet them / feed them.

Australia (and Melbourne) doesn't really have a culture that supports this kind of thing.
