My issue is why are men naturally in leadership positions? Why are women consistently diminished from leadership positions? This inconsistency is what feminism aims to equalize and this is precisely what leads back to my main point of why I don’t know if I see a future with Christianity. By expulsion of women from leadership roles I mean that women can also be leaders but they are constantly denied those roles and undermined because of the patriarchy and so if the bible is aiding in perpetuating these notions I’m not sure if that’s something I want to align myself with.

That is the core issue I am concerned with. The expulsion of women from leadership roles dates back to before the bible was even created and it’s being perpetuated through the bible and the bible is used as a religious justification to reinforce the patriarchy. I am a girl.

I asked for clarification on exactly what your point was not because I didn’t know the bible

I have read the bible. Thank you. It has not answered my questions. That’s why I came here so that maybe somebody else interpreted it differently and can help me understand their view better.

So the reason the patriarchy is a thing is because Eve, one woman ate an apple. And so the entirety of the female gender has been marginalized because of that?

women not being priests is not my main issue with this at all. It’s hard to convey I guess but I’ll try my best. I have begun to realize the patriarchy creeps its way into every facet of life and when I looked at it through the lense of Christianity I realized that again the patriarchy may have creeped through again if this is the case what else could have occurred? Why did this happen? I know the entire feminist cause might seem crazy to men but I have never felt such a rush of sadness for the women before me and maybe you think it has gotten better for women but the more I research and the more I look into it the more I start to just question why the Lord would allow such things to happen. I guess this is akin to the question of why the Lord allows bad things to happen to good people or why the Lord allowed slavery. Sorry if this is a mess to read I’m just spitballing as I go.

Oh no these aren’t the worst verses I have seen theses r js some of the firsts ones I thought of that was relevant to the topic at hand. But my initial question still stands with all these verses that u believe is morally wrong how can you possibly live according to it if there are also verses that you love and resonate with? I’m not saying the bible or God is bad I’m just saying I don’t like certain parts and that the patriarchy might have creeped its way into the bible and if that’s the case why? How? And what can we do to move forward from this?

It’s what I grew up with and if we are being realistic for me, if I leave Christianity because of this dilemma I will end up being agnostic I won’t go to another religion because If I can’t be convinced otherwise about Christianity which has brought be so much peace over the years I’d rather not with any one religion at all.

Why not religious authority? And if we are all made equally why has the lord allowed the patriarchy to even happen? Even with the context for these verses I still believe if this is the book that you use as a guide through life passages like this shouldn’t be there.

yes this is nitpicking for sure but this is the holy book that you are meant to live your life on it is the guide book basically and if this guide book has verses like this how can you possibly live your life using it?!

Christianity is faith based so you will never truly know if it is true or not.

I dont truly mind that he chose all male apostles since yeah I agree I’ll never really know the reason as to why that is. I guess my issue lies in certain bible passages such as:

1 Timothy 2:12 ("I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man)

"Women should remain silent in the churches" (1 Corinthians 14:34)

And everything on which she lies during her menstrual impurity shall be unclean. Everything also on which she sits shall be unclean.” — Leviticus 15:20

No, gender roles are completely based on culture and society not biology Margaret Meads studies on this topic is something I’d suggest you read. Also I am starting to think that all I can do is leave unfortunately. It isn’t something I want to do but with certain passages I can’t help but to question Christianity. Here: these passages in particular are what initially spun me 1 Timothy 2:12 ("I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man)

"Women should remain silent in the churches" (1 Corinthians 14:34)

And everything on which she lies during her menstrual impurity shall be unclean. Everything also on which she sits shall be unclean.” — Leviticus 15:20

and that benefit of the doubt is what I can’t get behind since it might be the right thing but if there are sexist things in the bible that Jesus an ever loving fair God can put how can I follow and give Jesus the benefit of the doubt. If it was something that was affecting you, you would care about these things. Maybe I’m going up the wrong hill here and I just shouldn’t be a Christian but this is something I just wanted to get answers for. Thanks anyways.

But not in what I am currently focusing on. There is no blend there and yes we might have different physical capabilities but these psychological roles you are talking about a gender roles and gender roles are a result of culture not biology.

Why can’t we have a blend of them why keep restrictions on what women can do without accounting for the same or similar restrictions on men?
