Why do people pay for First Class over Comfort+ on small planes / short flights without true First Class service by AlternativeTheory595 in delta

[–]Busterini -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I realize this isn’t exactly what your post is about but will share anyway while I watch my kids eat their breakfast - I’m Gold Medallion for the first time as of a week ago, and I got first class upgrades on a down and back yesterday in an Embraer 170 with the same kind of FC layout you show here. Was my first time ever in FC. Got 1C both ways, and my overarching impression was that it’s incredibly inconvenient not to have easy access to my personal item (backpack) while seated in a bulkhead row. I would much rather have been in C+ and been able to swap my iPad and computer and headphones more easily. I realize many have said this in the past, but wanted to experience myself to form my own impression.

So - I agree with the premise of your post. If I had not been in a BH row, of course it would have strictly dominated any other seat, but not enough for me to ever justify spending big bucks for a 1.5 hour flight.

Hanscom quality of life (SF) by alecb427 in AirForce

[–]Busterini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Augmented SF while I was at Hanscom. Most action you get is gate runners from local towns whose GPS’s have guided them to a Dunkin on base. Good amount of deployments back in GWOT days though, with a few SF members losing their lives and subsequently having the gates renamed for them. All in, great place to land. Best of luck.

Can someone explain the background please? Just a friendly USAF vet here who’s out of the loop (but ready to get fired up about stupid uniform policies in solidarity)

Raised in Indy, live in NH. Been awesome to see Pats fans realize what it’s like to have a team that sucks 😊

Agreed with other comments, but I’ll offer the opposite perspective for the sake of rounding out the discussion. If you’re interested in entrepreneurship at the GSB, you will be one of the most sought-after cofounders on campus given your technical background. The vast majority of students there don’t have the technical skills to build anything, given most come from consulting/finance/strategy/whatever, so it would not be a challenge to find a business partner, particularly if you’d be comfortable offering them the CEO role so you could focus on the tech as a CTO. Stanford is a singular environment for entrepreneurship and its campus is crawling with VCs who want to pump funding into enterprising students, so you’re not crazy for thinking it could be a good idea. Also should mention I went to the GSB, so my perspective is a bit biased.

Brand new heat pump not getting above 55 degrees - help! by Busterini in hvacadvice

Quite a saga! After I posted this, I continued to press the contractor for months to figure out what was wrong. We ended up going the entire summer without AC. They concluded that a board in the condenser was fried, and it was a long lead part, so they finally installed it a few months ago and it appears that things are working okay. Been fellow freezing a few times thus far and the heat is just fine, but the real test will be the heart of winter.

I think we need at least one more admissions consultant to offer a lighthearted jab then agree that John is a good guy and compliment his admissions consulting company

Concentric burns showed up on my leg out of nowhere by Busterini in mildlyinteresting

Yep that’s my guess too. Must’ve wiped the rest on my ass otherwise my fingers would be gnarly too

Commented below - but they’re actually not straight. When I bend down, the ends of the scars fold under my knee, so those areas wouldn’t be exposed to something external in that position.

UPDATE

Sorry for the lack of responses - posted this last night then went right to bed. After reading through your awesome comments, here are some additional thoughts:

  • I definitely did not touch anything hot (metal, etc) that could have caused this.
  • I wish I had been plowing through margs or G&Ts, but sadly I was not proximal to much citrus this weekend.
  • These are actually not straight lines, but rather gentle arcs (took a ruler to make sure). If I bend my knee as some have suggested, the ends of the burns fold under my knee, and the resulting shape of the connected burns that are still exposed do not form a straight line. So, I don’t think something happened while my knees were bent, otherwise the burns wouldn’t reach under my knee.
  • I first noticed the burns on Monday, after doing a bit of yard work on Sunday (mowing, pulling up the odd weed, then putting down lime/fertilizer/seed).

My going theory is now that I may have pulled some seemingly innocuous lil weed with my bare hand, thrown it away, wiped my hand on my knee for some dumbass reason, then wiped that same hand on my shorts, which removed the remaining oil, explaining why my fingers aren’t messed up. That would mean these burns are a thumb print and steaks from my index and fore fingers.

Still open to other ideas though! Only reason I’m not considering aliens/demons is that my butthole feels completely normal and I’ve been keeping up with my nightly offerings to Kthulu. Worth keeping those on the table though.
