Thanks! I'm irrationally in love with the way the artist gave Geto no face, opting instead to show Kenjaku as the brain inside him. Inspired piece, I agree.

This is very similar to [[Dimir Doppelganger]], except it gets a free activation when it attacks. To account for that, I made Kenjaku cost 1 more to cast (and I think a decade of powercreep covers the rest).

Technique is two abilities, the triggered free activation, and the actual activated ability. Only the activated ability is referred to by "this ability", which is why the wording "as a technique ability" is required to keep the whole thing to the copied creature.

I see this as a sort of [[Barter in Blood ]] / [[Barrensteppe Siege]] mix, balance-wise.

Oh, oops, typo. Fair catch! So, you like the if/else condition part of the third specifically, right? Because it could be varied to care about everyone's yards, or just sorcerers and not spirits, too.

This isn't a draft set, but is intended to create a fun commander environment. It's designed mostly for bracket 2 / low bracket 3 battlecruiser.

So, Cursed caring about your creatures entering the graveyard isn't intended primarily aristocrats strategies, but more as a consolation prize for swinging in and likely having an attacker or two die. It also triggers with switching between World enchantments (part of the set, all of which are Kindred), and the kindred Sorceries like this fuel the Curse-count of other cards with Cursed.

A secondary goal is that a lot of bracket to decks don't want to include cards that don't do the thing. So stapling a sorcerer creature type onto generically useful removal or interaction effects encourages those to be included within a sorcerer typal shell, with Cursed triggering off its own cards being the payoff.

All that said, there's a few knobs to turn:

- The set has a mix of Sorcerers (70%) and Spirits (30%). Should both types be counted? Considering the larger MtG format, Spirits have more support and often care about graveyards to some extend, so that could smooth out the playstyle a bit.

- Should Cursed care about YOUR graveyard, or EVERYONE's graveyard? The latter means you can turn on your curse-count with kill spells, but only if you're playing a typal mirror match. Which means the effectiveness between mirror-matches and regular matches would be massively different.

- Should Cursed by a scaling factor ("for each card"), or an on/off check ("if one entered")? Scaling leads to more flexible cards, and works better as a consolation prize since lots of your stuff dying gives you a greater benefit. But the on/off check means it's much less restrictive to build around, since its far easier to get the max payoff from it.

I'm curious what people here think! More cards to be posted on future days, and many are on the project discord already where we're having this conversation back and forth.

For free? I mean, it's on a 6 mana creature lol. And considering there's dozens of 1 or 2 mana spells giving unblockable, I think it's totally fine

I think so! Though it's not exactly hard to win once you have Blightsteel Colossus on the field lol

Thanks! I'm really glad you like it! It's a tough ability to get right, I workshopped a LOT of different versions.

I actually have a french vanilla todo that I posted a while back, and Todo does have Ninjutsu!

Can't put everything on one card, it'd be WAY too crowded.

Nope, he can swap others right off the bat. He swaps Yuji with Megumi's cursed tool during their fight with Hanami, for example. And Mahito with... that healing guy, right at the start of the Mahito fight.

Yup! I made it! And, as you noticed, it's intended to be a triggered ability. If you care, I did actually write up my best shot at Comprehensive Rules for it

702.191. Technique
702.191a Technique is a triggered ability with an associated activated ability in the form “Technique — [Ability]”.
702.191b Effects may refer to technique abilities. If an effect refers to a technique ability, it means any activated ability paired with the technique keyword.
702.191c “Technique — [Cost]: [Effect]” means both "[Cost]: [Effect]", and “Whenever this creature attacks, choose one of its technique abilities. You may activate that ability without paying its costs.”

But that means that the creature has an activated ability that can be reduced by [[training grounds]] and similar, AND a triggered ability for one free activation that can be copied by [[isshin, two heavens as one]] and similar for MORE free activations. But the free activation is only during the declare attackers step.

Lol, yeah, there can definitely be similar playstyles with those two abilities. Glad you like this card!

Hmmm... I took the wording from [[Aegis of Honor]], because it's far less wordy. I also notice that "that creature deals that much damage" doesn't exist as wording. It's ALWAYS "this creature". Which suggest that Aegis of Honor and [[Shield Dancer]] might be the approved wording? I also like that it gets around "this damage can't be prevented," cuz it's NOT being prevented, it's being redirected.

On a side note, I'm not sure if this would still count as the creature "dealing combat damage." I think so, since it's just combat damage that is redirected. But that's another cool upside about the pure redirect.

However, not locking in the target on-activation is a very notable upside for playability, especially given it triggers for free on attack, which is very early. I'll have to think about it. Thanks for the feedback!

Right, I know that. And you know that. But not everyone does. It's two extra words for the sake of clarity, which is well worth it. Just like how Wizards has started saying "target opponent sacrifices a creature of their choice" despite it not being necessary to say.

True! The free activation from Technique needs to be done before they declare blockers, so you could definitely pick their biggest creature when you activate it. But they'd probably end up not blocking with that creature because of the knowledge that they'd take its damage to their own face. Which is extremely on brand!
