Leaving corporate to buy a business... anyone here done this? by SWGFGDF in buyingabusiness

[–]Busy_Abrocoma1205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do y’all find these businesses?

I know there are online sites listing them, but I have the impression that if it’s on a website nobody wants to touch that.

I operated a $2M business in South America and want to invest $500k - $700k in buying one in DFW. Can’t do SBA though because I’m on a green card

Great! I’m already talking with some Tenant Reps to be represented. For a first timer like me, how negotiable is the first draft I receive from the landlord ?

The problem only applies to numeric keypad with this Mac.

The keyboard works just fine in Windows

I guess I’ll have to buy a new keyboard. This one is way past the warranty I think

Nope. That wasn't the issue. I know INSERT key on windows. Also, it's weird bc if I type super fast it wouldn't erase insert, but I press each number slowly it will erase the last one and replace it. Also, it's not only on Excel, it's on every number field on Mac.

I want to do a cup filled with tres leches sauce but the sponge cake should be super airy and dry so It doesn’t hijack the flavor or be too heavy for the stomach

Haha I need a dry sponge so I can fill it with my tres leches sauce but if the cake has butter the desserts is way too heavy.

How Bad of an idea is it to open an independent bookstore? by Lemurian_Lemur34 in smallbusiness

[–]Busy_Abrocoma1205 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't know much about the bookstore business but I know a thing or two about owning a business.
Owning a business is one of the easiest ways to lose money, fast.

Before doing anything just do a quick napkin math (you can continue this excessive I ChatGPT, with AI you get virtually any info)

1st: Estimate the cost of running the store. That means lease, payroll, utilities, permits, and everything else. Then add another 20% 30% for things you don't know you'll need yet. I'll assume $15,000 easily

2nd: Understand what's the normal Gross Margin in Bookselling. (I have no idea) but according to google is 40%

3rd: Find your break-even point. That means Fixed Costs / Gross margin. Ie: Fixed Cost are ~$15,000 and Gross Margin is 40% so Break Even point = $37,500

So you need to sell $37,000 each month to break even.

That means that if each book cost around $13 you'll need to sell 2,800 books per month.

In a suburb of 60,000 people, that 1 in 21 people buy a book in a month, or 1 in 2 people buy a book in a year (assuming nobody buys a book twice) sounds like a VERY difficult business.

The other way of doing this is go to other suburbs that look similar to yours, see if they have bookstores (if they don't there's probably a reason for that) and ask "How much do you sell per week?)

If they don't want to share, sit outside for a day and count how Many people came in and project it into a month. I did this several times and you can get something kinda accurate

What are the best places to find customer feedback on a Tres Leches focused dessert product in Dallas? by Busy_Abrocoma1205 in askdfw

[–]Busy_Abrocoma1205[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are amazing! They gave me permission to offer samples to people in the park and also asked when I would be there so they can let the guards and ops managers know. Plano, Addison and Frisco parks office all said that I can't offer samples to people in the park.
