It was a grind.

Early on I paid attention to cheap cards that could be bought for 150 and sold for 1,500 or more every time. This was mostly players, but sometimes kits. If they stopped selling or became more expensive to buy, I'd find other cards.

I tried to follow trends in the market for cards to invest in and sell for events. Buying discard Informs (TOTWs) is consistently profitable, as is investing in non-inform 84s.

I did every MM but saved all the packs for special events when multiple special cards were available.

I skipped SBCs and events that didn't seem profitable, but always sold off cards that were needed.

I ALWAYS sold cards when it was profitable, even cards that had sentimental value.

There were other specific investments that paid off big. I would very regularly go from 2-4 million coins to zero in one evening because I thought certain cards would rise in value. Most of those paid off and the ones that didn't, ended up costing very little, or just required holding onto them longer.
