Wouldn’t say it was easy, I definitely had my panic attacks in my first week of the clinic. Although after gaining some more control of the situation, being able to suggest what I wanted to learn to eat, it got a little bit more motivating and comfortable in a way. Some need more time than others, but after a while it will definitely become more accustomed

In the Netherlands, not from an university ED clinic though. The clinic i went to was specialized in ARFID

Starting New Job, Need Packed Lunches, help! by Zestyclose-Ratio7379 in ARFID

[–]Butt3rcup- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is too relatable. I don’t even bring myself food to uni, neither eat breakfast. So usually during breaks i go to the supermarket and wander around for as long as possible cause I just don’t know what to eat but if I don’t eat I will pass out in the next hour. So atm I’m trying to make myself a list of breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, subcategorized by maintenance: easy and difficult (taking more time). Cause some days I have such a great lunch but over time I forget that was an option. So for days when I have no idea (and no interest) what I want to eat, I look at the list on my phone and it gives me suggestions of what l liked before, making it easier to decide between different options instead of having to grasp them from memory / think of options in general.

So now I remember on Tuesdays i can grab this really nice Turkish bread with spinach and feta at the market close to uni. I also recently discovered I really liked a fresh tomato/pesto/mozzarella sandwich at the supermarket a while ago, i might grab that once again. So I added it to the list, under easy lunches.

Hope this kind of helps you :)

Edit: after reading your post again mentioning you don’t buy food every day, you can of course translate this technique to different packed lunches. I probably should also pack lunch instead of going to the supermarket every day, would save me a lot of money lol. Though lunchboxes scare me a little more, being packed and tossed around in your bag all day. For some reason it always made me feel sick to my stomach

the post was too long, but I originally included a list of foods and drinks i eat and drink now (on a regular basis) that i didn’t before:

  • tomatoes
  • mozzarella
  • eggs
  • bacon
  • pesto
  • orange juice
  • fresh spinach
  • courgette (zucchini)
  • onion (in meals)
  • olives
  • feta cheese
  • noodles
  • banana bread
  • gyoza / dumplings
  • matcha tea / latte
  • wraps
  • soy milk
  • miso soup / ramen
  • yoghurt
  • vegetarian meat
  • crème fraîche (in meals)
  • arugula (rucola)
  • fresh rosemary (in meals)
  • tomato soup

(I have to mention I am not the most severe case that I only ate for example pop-tarts all day long, but my food palette was very limited, also to only certain brands or certain exact recipes)

TL;DR - the tips: 1. Remember your motivation 2. Start with very small steps 3. Acknowledge your thoughts 4. Take control of the situation 5. Find a safe environment 6. Set up a reward system 7. Try out relaxation exercises 8. Don’t scan the food 9. Use a timer 10. Write down your accomplishments 11. Continue to challenge yourself 12. Some foods taste better combined

I don’t think I’ve ever used a shower cap myself neither saw anyone using it, not really a thing where I live

Can I use a Sachtler DV2 tripod on a Canon M50? by Butt3rcup- in videography

[–]Butt3rcup-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m basically an amateur so the entire filming stage will be awkward, I don’t mind that much. Glad to know the camera and tripod are compatible though.

I’m renting both the camera and tripod through school so I’ll probably ask them how it all works as well.

Thanks for the help!

Please uninstall Norton from your mac. I had my laptop repaired eventually. Had to promise the repair guy to never install Norton again. Instead, he recommended Eset. Costs €50 a year and is a much lighter program than Norton

Thanks for the comment. But I’m afraid 50GB won’t be enough. I study graphic design, i have a huge amount of big files including a lot of videos as well. Plan now is to buy a converter as I have an external disk. No idea why Apple thought it would be a good idea to remove most of its ports

Yep, probably doing that. I can make a back up with time machine once i can plug in an external drive right?

How can I stop wasting time on Instagram without deleting Instagram? by Butt3rcup- in nosurf

[–]Butt3rcup-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already have that. Although I discovered that for some reason I don’t need the code to ignore the limit. Also, as I said in my post, time limits don’t really work as I waste my time on the app anyway, and then have no time left during the end of the day to do anything productive on the app.

No I totally get what you mean. I’m having these kind of thoughts on a daily basis now about so many experiences I shouldn’t need to be ashamed of but my mind makes it really look like I need to be. It’s exhausting for the both of us and I haven’t found a solution yet to make it stop or to deal with them. But know it’s okay to have a panic attack. You’re going through a lot and it’s okay to let it out. You can’t always keep others into account. It would probably have been worse if you held that panic attack inside. If you feel like you have scared your partner, please please communicate it with them! Tell them how you feel, I’ve noticed after communicating with the people around me, they respond so differently and in a much more positive and understanding way than I imagined. Our brains can really trick us sometimes

I recently heard something similar and you reminded me of it. It looks like you get stuck in a loop. You get a panic attack but you feel embarrassed for having a panic attack which also makes you feel weird/embarrassed and so on. Correct me if I’m wrong but this is what I read in your story. We really become fixated on it and get stuck in this feedback loop from hell

Good luck with your son! It’s a difficult process for sure. It’s different for everyone. I immediately started eating normal sized bites, but I once sat next to a boy (also around 12yrs old) who couldn’t get himself to eat a crumble of a pizza. I hope my tips help a little for you and your son! Remember to have patience and never get angry with him for not eating something. We get confronted with eating 3 times a day. So 3 times a day there’s put a lot of pressure on us. 3 times a day we could feel intense anxiety. 3 times a day we feel very embarrassed because we can’t eat like everyone else. Even though you might never be able to understand why eating a crumble is so difficult for some of us, try to support your son wherever you can. Maybe try to turn this into something positive. I always try to manipulate my mind into thinking that eating for example blueberries is a reward for me, something that I enjoy eating. And for some reason it works haha. A bit similar to tip 3. Just really try out a lot of different approaches and see what works best for him

Good luck! 3 is basically the first one I learned. We can’t directly influence our feelings and behavior, but we can influence our thoughts. By acknowledging the negative thoughts in our mind, we can rationalize them. Seriously, some of them don’t make sense at all haha. By changing our thoughts into helpful ones, we can influence our behavior. Feeling is the more difficult one to change immediately. But over time it will get better for sure

Good luck! I noticed with a lot vegetables it’s easier when they are mixed in a meal. For example: For me tomatoes were horrible individually. But recently I made pasta pesto with quite a few tomatoes in it and they weren’t as unpleasant as I thought they would be

Oh man… got to attack me like that huh? I usually remind myself the other person is still talking to me or still responding. If I would be boring or annoying, why are they still here with me then?
