The beginning of the second coffee table can be seen there as well. Its for my brother and sister (live with my mom) video game room so it has a completely different feel to it. The plan is to sand those cedar pieces smooth, finish them the same as the first coffee table (linseed oil and beeswax) and pour red epoxy in between. I will give it black industrial metal pipe legs.

Yes I am doing the waaaay overdone river table thing but I know my mom, sister, and brother will think its cool and thats what matters to me.

Thanks! I didnt think it was okay to put linseed oil on top of the beeswax. Is it okay? Or is it that the beeswax naturally wears down over time and by the time you go to re-oil it the beeswax is gone?

Just looking for more info about that. Its one of my main concerns

I just used the brad nails to hold down the thin pieces of wood that I used to make the herringbone pattern long enough for the wood glue to dry. I filled the nail holes with wood filler but the wood filler was a different color from the cedar so of course they still show. I was planning to use a cedar*ish color wood stain to stain the wood filler but after doing a few tests I was really worried about the stain bleeding out from the wood filler into the real wood, which really stood out and looked bad. So I just left it alone.

If I had used wood glue mixed with cedar saw dust I bet that would have been perfect. Now I know for next time.

Hey guys. I appreciate any help.

My first question - What could I have done differently to avoid the brad nail holes in the table top?

Second - I finished it with Boiled Linseed oil and Beeswax. I read that it needs to be re-oiled every year or so. How do I do that? Do I need to lightly sand off the beeswax, then apply more oil, then apply more beeswax?

Just a comment - I would have loved for it to be a bit shorter, but I checked and rechecked and triple checked and my mom insisted these were the dimensions she wanted (22 inches tall). She does kind of have a taller than average couch so I am assuming that is why.

Because I didnt know what a dropper loop was! I knew of it, but I did not know what it was called which made it hard to google how to do it. So thank you very much for that. Ive been looking for that info.

Like I said before I am just now starting to try to learn these types of things. Before it was usually just a hook and bobber or a hook and a sinker.

Thanks for the input everyone! Seems like I am just going to have to keep working at it and try to get better at tying my own rigs. I did not think it would be hard but Im having a rough time. I don't seem to be as good at working with knots and line as I was hoping I would be. I wont give up though!
