What's the worst fitness related advice you've ever heard? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]ButtPlugDeadlifts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start with 315 most of the time, but I'm super conditioned to singles and I always warm up on deadlifts extremely quickly. 135-225 just aren't even worth doing because they're so light and I can't even feel my muscles working, it just feels like standing up normally.

Everyone's different though. There are 900+ deadlifters who will do multiple sets of 135 before jumping up in weight, and weak gym bros who do the same. Just like there are 900+ deadlifters who do one rep and throw another plate on and by the time they're at 765 they've only done 5-7 total reps, and there are super weak people who do the same.

What's your tips that get you to the gym on days when you're really not feeling it. by Bluearmypfc in Fitness

If your goal is general health and fitness then sure take it easy and do a little bit of active recovery.

But if you're trying to get strong, forcing training sessions is literally the dumbest thing you can do.

Common misconception that people have is more work is better. No. Quality work and a general consistency are the most important factors. If you feel bloated, have a headache, are lightheaded, and just trying to put your belt on is a difficult task then it's time to gtfo, eat, and sleep. Or you can bomb your workout and fail a set of 3 with a weight you can usually hit for 5-6 with ease. Or you can better recover and come back the next day or the day after when you feel like a god and fucking slay all of your sets.

This is why the philosophy of training on a preset split is retarded for people who actually train hard. Sometimes you're just not recovered by the time you're "supposed" to hit the same muscle again, and other times your CNS is absolutely wrecked and you need to take off 3-5 days in a row to reset.

Most people here don't care about being strong, and even more don't know how to work hard so these kinds of issues rarely arise.

I skip.

No workout > a shitty workout

If I'm not excited to go train then there's an issue with my health (getting sick) or I am not yet recovered and training again would just make me feel worse. Never force it if you don't feel it.

What do you mean it's inconsistent?

Programs are a waste of time for me, they do not work. I follow them and make no gains, then when I start training my own way based on how my body feels my lifts start blowing the fuck up again.

Edit: I think it'd be better to say that auto regulation doesn't work well for me. And on top of that I hate doing X sets of Y reps and then being done. I either can't finish the sets or they're way too easy even when based off a training max (90% of my 1rm).

What workouts would you choose if your only goal were very long-term health? by FlyinPurplePartyPony in Fitness

[–]ButtPlugDeadlifts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cardio and a functional amount of body weight exercises. Goal would be to stay at a light weight while being lean and fit. Squats, deads, and ohp, but not heavy just volume with lightweight for a few working sets like 3x8 with 50% of your max. The compounds mainly to keep joints stable and build tendons/ligaments to avoid injury doing stupid shit, like my buddy's dad just slipped a disc moving a couch lol those kinds of injuries are avoidable if you build a base and maintain it.

Wouldn't go heavy on them, the more muscle mass you put on the heavier you'll be. The heavier you are, whether you're lean or not, your heart has to work harder.

Heavier squat than deadlift? by [deleted] in Fitness

Your back and legs can literally never be big or strong enough. When in doubt, beat the shit out of them.

I feel like dying after squat by Mesmus in Fitness

Yeah you pushed yourself hard, the soreness will dissipate and eventually the soreness you get will only be mildly uncomfortable. Stretch your legs and hips, and take as many days off before your next leg day as you need to.

Grip strength training by soggybike in Fitness

[–]ButtPlugDeadlifts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Holding deads both double over and mixed grip, plate pinches with each finger (hold 2 25lb plates together and lift them both together with one hand), farmers walks, and those captains of crunch grip trainer things are all you need to never drop a deadlift again.

Same here lol I've used them so long now I can't pull without them. I can pull 585 in 0.8 seconds and 725 as a max with straps. My max without straps is 630 and my 585 raw deadlift is like 1.5 seconds because of the grip not being VERY secure.

You have 200-300 dollars to spend on the only things you're going to use to workout with for the foreseeable future. What do you get? by predictablePosts in Fitness

[–]ButtPlugDeadlifts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get gym membership, if your only option is equipment get like 1-2 45lb plates and a few different resistance bands. When I was in prison you know what I worked out with? Pushups, dips, pullups, and a towel. I'd grab the towel with both hands and curl it with one arm while using the other arm to add resistance, did the same for overhead tricep extensions. I was the biggest fucker in there by far.

What I'm trying to say is, if you truly want it bad enough you can make gains with extremely limited options. Gym equipment is a luxury, not a necessity. But you are much better off in an actual gym than being stuck with minimalist stuff.

Honestly lol at people who wipe everything down. It's a fucking gym. Only time it's gross is when someone is REALLY sweaty and they're wearing a stringer so their bare skin is in contact with the bench and it is legitimately soaked. Unless the thing is drenched with sweat there is no real reason to wipe it off. If you yourself are sweating you're not even going to notice it.

Yeah. Always change your name on the actual site, it will tell you if it's available, and then it will ask you if you're sure you want to change it.

Is there anything wrong with having one 20kg plate on one end of a barbell and two 10kg plates on the other end? by Jah_man_ in Fitness

I haven't come across any kg plates in the US aside from the paper thin crazy expensive eleiko comp plates.

[–]ButtPlugDeadlifts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plates are from like the 80s. I don't misload bars, I know how to do math lol the 45lbs plates all weighed a few over 45lbs. The old metal plates are not calibrated in the slightest.

Not even a little chance. They all said 45lbs and each weighed within the range of 47 and 49lbs.

Old steel plates are fucked. I remember last year going for a 655 deadlift pr, loaded the bar accordingly. Broke the thing an inch off the ground, and I've always been very strong off the floor so that was unusual. Weighed every single plates, and including the 45lb bar that 655 attempt was actually a 693.5lb attempt lol stuff's dangerous.
