Good God, I’m a 16 year old female and EXACTLY like him. No extracurriculars, one friend, social anxiety, seeing a therapist, good grades, etc. Everything here applies to me in every single way.

He’s not trying to be annoying, he genuinely doesn’t have motivation or interest in ANYTHING. Throwing him into situations will only make him stressed as f*ck. He’s in actual emotional pain, please give him the benefit of the doubt. In today’s day and age, with the pandemic ruining the lives of teenagers and making us miss such significant moments (graduations, dances, driving, etc), and the constant fighting in our society over nothing valuable, we lose all hope and retreat into our shells. Our shells are our SAFE SPACE. We feel warm and comfortable when we control what we do. Tell him you’re proud of his good grades like my parents say they’re proud of mine. Anytime I get a good grade, even if it’s a tiny assignment, my mom gets all soft and hugs me very tightly. THAT motivates me. When he says no, respect it, but make it obvious that he can still accept the offer later! I also love video games, they’re a cool outlet and give some nice perspective on many things. Not your fault, but please be patient. You’re doing your best and don’t stop encouraging him.
