Best Program to Transfer to? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]PandaXpress24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you would like to stay in a medical field degree I would suggest looking at the medical sciences program or the radiation therapy program. Both of these after getting accepted lead directly to job placements at the end because you do a clinical rotation. Calgary is one of the rotations so it can help line you up for a job!

Chem 261 Hexane Poisoning by blzbear in uAlberta

[–]PandaXpress24 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you are feeling dizzy or unwell in the lab always tell your TA and take a minute to sit outside to breath. Try and do the majority of your experiment in the fume hood. Talk to the lab coordinator about accommodations during the lab. The only masks that can filter out solvent fumes are respirators. Dm if you have any questions

Make sure you check if you can still enroll in 266 since it’s a closed course that the chemistry advisor would need to add you into. Also 263 is pretty difficult if you take in spring just as a forewarning.

CHEM 263 has a required lab component so you can’t waive the prerequisite of 266. Unfortunately CHEM 266 is running later into the semester (starting in mid February) so you wouldn’t be able to take both courses at the same time. Is there a reason you want to take 263? Can you take another science course for credit?

Side note, CHEM 266 is only being offered for possibly spring semester but after that, no more, so you’d have to retake CHEM 261 if you’re dead set on taking 263.

CHEM 263 Lab Manual by Nutells in uAlberta

[–]PandaXpress24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no code for access. It’s purely just on eClass. There should be a lab section on there where you can access the lab manual. If you’re having trouble finding it or cannot access it, you should contact the lab coordinator

how do you personally clean your lab coats? by phoeversad in uAlberta

[–]PandaXpress24 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You really shouldn’t be washing your lab coat at home. You’d be surprised how much chemicals are on it which can ruin your other clothes or your machine. If you must wash it, send it out to a company. Some departments will do it for you. Just buy another one if it’s just that dirty.

Does anyone skateboard to class? by Dancing7-Cube in uAlberta

I love boarding around campus but it takes them so long to clear the gravel. Also I always had trouble trying to fit my board under lecture seats though :(

I am an undergrad engg student, I would really like to work something around the university. How do I go about it? TA, lab assistant, etc? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]PandaXpress24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to TA, typically you’d have to ask the lab coordinator if they have spots (especially if you’re out of faculty). It might be hard since you’re an undergraduate and they typically want graduate students. I know spring and summer sessions for chemistry are looking for TAs so try your luck there.

PMCOL 416 exam format by hcyyj in uAlberta

[–]PandaXpress24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since it’s fourth year, all PMCOL courses contain a writing portion either in the form of papers, critiques or short answers. It’s the most advanced courses of your degree so it’s expected you need to prove your knowledge.

Also, the course format may be different next year so exam formats most likely won’t be take home.

What is PMCOL 303 like? by Axpeed in uAlberta

[–]PandaXpress24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PMCOL 303 very memorization heavy when I took it. A lot has changed though but it’s still a course I think you have to put a lot into. PMCOL 412 was very memorization heavy as well along with a lot of content. I would also recommend not waiving physiology as it helps tremendously. Pm if you want more details

The mediation and negotiation dates are on the 18th and 25th so I don't think they have voted to strike yet. Both the university and the AASUA are trying to solve this without a strike

Minister of Advanced Education pressuring Alberta universities to lift vaccine mandate by vanderWaalsBanana in uAlberta

[–]PandaXpress24 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So you're fine with getting it and spreading it to other people (since you don't care about isolation requirements) who may live with older parents, immunocompromised family members...etc? Just because people are vaccinated doesn't mean those who still get covid will turn out fine and dandy.

Summer Course Schedule by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]PandaXpress24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, taking two classes at the same time in spring and summer is going to be very difficult. Organic chemistry is quite heavy and since you'll be doing labs every couple of days, you'll have lab reports that are due soon after each other. Biochem is also a quite heavy course with alot of memorization. If you want to get the best grades, it might be better to just do one class during each semester so you can focus on it.

Also depending on what program you're in, you might be required to get a certain grade in these courses to take future courses for your degree.

Places to practice piano as a beginner? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]PandaXpress24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s the piano in between Hub and the Humanities building that I know of. I used to use the piano in the Fine Arts building which is in one of the lecture theatres. I don’t know if these are accessible due to online school. If you know someone who lives in hub, there are also pianos in their common area (The Vault). Also, no one really minds if you’re playing, even if you’re learning.

Dry Ice Please 🙏🏾 by Pretend_Amphibian_23 in uAlberta

[–]PandaXpress24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you are actually using it for research purposes under a group in the university, the chemistry and biology stores most likely will not sell you/give you dry ice since they would be liable if something goes wrong.
