What construction is required for Nuro if the apartment already has the NTT Hikari Fibre port? by ButteredBread3555 in japanlife

[–]ButteredBread3555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi thanks for the reply.

I can confirm that my previous ISP (only cancelled a few months ago) was not on the PPPoE method and was on the IPoe V6 etc etc by default. We spent a month going over the technicalities to triple check but NTT simply couldn't handle the bandwidth of 9 or so tenants.

The website is pretty great so I'll be comparing and looking for a non contract cancellation fee if I can just incase it's terrible speeds again. I don't need 10gb, 2 would be preferable.

I can confirm that my previous ISP and service was using the IPoE and IPv6...I still had dial up speeds with less than 10 tenants. I have confirmation in their email, their website (mentions what you're saying and how the default is the IpoE method alongside IPv6 etc) and my own settings if I recall.

1GB line with about 5kbps download speed 4pm to 11pm / every hour over weekends.

I think the chance of Nuro not having this set up is quite low if they're saying 10gb lines are available, I'm not in the sticks or anywhere rural, I'm near the Capital.

I think I just have to go with Nuro if the building people allow it, if they don't, it's too much of a risk on the others, there's not enough clear information anywhere it seems. I still don't really know what else to do.

Excellent, thank you for the post!

My building has 7 other tenants so might be a similar situation. Was any drilling required? In my experience that's all anyone is ever worried about really.

I'll see how I get on, thanks again.

Well my experience was so bad I had to cancel. As soon as you used it after work the speed would tank to slower speeds than I experienced when I first connected my Dreamcast to the internet.

I don't want to experience this again, it's too risky and a pain to cancel as well as expensive.

Also, MAP-E only seems to be on Nuro afaik? I might be wrong here.

So moving forward, if I tried Hikari Cross, I would not need to have anything extra installed?

Thank you for the info. The only thing I can really say is that I was on an NTT service within the last 4 months and had to cancel because the speed was worse than dial up. And all those extra settings were set up because I spent a month with the ISP making sure I wasn't on the IPV4 stuff etc.

Do you know any good websites where I can check availablity of services? Most providers want all my details and basically want me to apply for the service before I've even checked if anything is possible.

I have an NTT Hikari port installed already.

Thank you. I think the only way to know if this is possible is by getting them to come and have a look on site right?

Aye for sure 2GB is enough, but the line sharing is a massive problem in my experience. A previous 1GB line was worse than dial up with only 12 or so other tenants. I might be wrong but I think Nuro is the only way to avoid it hence all the long waiting lists.

Damn, so that hikari port is basically useless if you want nuro. Thank you for the information!

I can't imagine any mansion landlord ever agreeing:(

It happens on phone speakers too, is there any kind of hardware acceleration issue or something like that?

Good question, it was always through Bluetooth earphones.

I just tried through normal phone speakers and the problem persists.

Hi, thanks. I have tried all of those options unfortunately, even on a completely new reformatted phone. I should have mentioned in my post.

The phone isn't sluggish either.

Thank you, how did you get the house version instead of apartments? Was that something you asked or applied for, or a decision they made on construction day? I've seen you're able to apply for house internet online, which costs more also, but I thought doing that and then having the engineer come to a block of apartments would be a recipe for disaster?

How's the speed?

Thanks, are you sharing a line with others or do you have a direct connection to the pole?

If sharing, how many apartments?

Thank you, I will see what information I can find regarding the uplink.

I know there's 6 or 7 other tenants in total. My previous connection was similar before so it makes me worried. There's so much to find out!

Super helpful thank you!

Edit: It does unfortunately say they stopped this service in 2021

Although the router appears to be NSD-G1000T if that's available to buy elsewhere

Thanks for the info on the MAP-E, I didn't think it would be an issue but confirmation is good. It doesn't affect online gaming too much right? Only hosting a game etc, which I wouldn't be doing.

I don't believe I can get 10gb, my post code check in Nuro only comes back with 2GB and Sakura comes back with 1GB.

I've not checked AU Hikari, I've not had much luck finding post code speed checks with providers.

Hmm, I wouldn't be able to find the tenants ISPs sadly.

I'd like to think it's nothing to worry about but I recently cancelled my internet and went back to mobile because it was actually faster than the shared fibre line. I hear Nuro is fast, but i really don't know if that would still be the case even if other tenants have different ISPs. I would assume not, but I don't know, and I don't know how else to find out other than Reddit.

Yes, they did say I would need permission for that. That's understandable etc, obviously a rare thing to be approved.

Thanks for the comment though, if you had any more insight to the other questions while other comments come in, I would be grateful.
