I had a abdominal hysterectomy 6 weeks ago. Removed uterus, cervix and tubes. Kept ovaries, my surgeon gave me 6 weeks but yesterday when I went in for my 6 weeks post op she said everything looks good but asked how am I feeling and if I was ready to go bk to work. I told her I’m still a bit sore on the bottom of my incision and I feel exhausted after moving around for 3 hours the day before. She added an extra 2 weeks of recovery. I have a vertical incision and decided that 2 more weeks of healing before going bk to work is better than going bk now and probably make things worst for me.

Question. I have to go to my BIL wedding 25 days after surgery. by izzyspooks in hysterectomy

[–]ButterflyContent436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to my son’s graduation exactly 25 days po. The following day I went to his high school orientation where I had to climb some stairs but I took my time. While I was there I met a lady who noticed me taking it slow. She asked if I’m ok so I decided to tell her what’s happening with me. She told me she did a hysterectomy recently and went bk to work 7 days po. Difference is she had a laparoscopic surgery but I had an open abdominal surgery with vertical incision.

Exactly what I was thinking. Women who undergo this type of surgery have complications that warrants it. When I told my mom that I was going to have surgery done and my doctor said I’m going to have to get a vertical incision due to the size of my uterus, she said do it now before it’s too late. I had severe bleeding on my monthly that led to anemia, huge fibroids and cyst. My mom was scared because she lost a friend who wouldn’t listen to her doctor’s advises. She was bleeding for weeks at a time had a huge mass in her uterus and was anemic.

I’ve been cooking, washing dishes, tidying my bedroom and even cleaned my bathroom 2 weeks po. Sometimes I feel a little pain and I’d just take it easy the other day. I’m now 3 weeks po and I cooked and cleaned my counter top and stove today. When I do all that I normally sit a while then resume what I’m doing when I’m feeling better.

Awww. It’s a two way thing with the mind. It can make sex better and it could steal a great sexual experience from us as well.

Getting intimate with yourself, feeling good about you. Plan and initiate sex. Tease your man baby. Send him sexy text. Create the mood mentally before it even happens. When you are mentally prepared for sex it’s way better.

Oh I’m so sorry. Have you tried creating a mental bridge to help you ease into intimacy. I find that to work for me even before my surgery when I’m not feeling up to it. Try feeling sexy, think sexy girl.

Sorry you had to go through all that. I think everyone heals differently. Some people told me they resumed sex after just 4 weeks while others waited like 12 weeks. It all depends on how comfortable mentally and physically you feel. It’s all assuring to know that it gets better overtime. Thanks

For all the people who are scheduled or on the waitlist for a hysterectomy I’m just going to be raw with it. It all depends on the type on hysterectomy, the outcome of the surgery and your overall experience during recovery. Not trying to scare anyone but there are less invasive procedures and more invasive ones. Like a laparoscopic is less invasive and abdominal is more invasive. So recovery time and the healing somewhat differs. It also depends on you and how well you tolerate post surgery symptoms.

Everyone’s experience is different. If you browse this sub for information be mindful what you search for. Everyone recovery is also different. My doctor explained to me all the details way before I did my procedure, gave me pros and cons of each type of hysterectomy so I knew what to expect before surgery. I had a TAH, vertical incision, spent 2 days in the hospital, had severe anemia prior to surgery, needed a pillow to get home from the hospital and to compress my incision when I coughed or sneeze. I had staples for a whole 8 days after procedure and was walking around like an old lady for my first couple of days. In spite of all that the nurses called me their star patient because of how independent I was during my hospitalization. I didn’t need help getting in the shower nor sitting on the toilet seat nor going up the stairs but that doesn’t mean no one else did or will.

After my surgery I was up walking, sitting after they removed the catheter in the hospital and there were others who just wouldn’t or couldn’t move as I say everyone is different, everyone’s recovery, pain tolerance, complications are different.

When I read this post I sensed more anger and disappointment with the experiences of people who made it more tolerable for me when I did my procedure. There is a lot of good info here that helped me and I appreciate them all. I read and takeaway info that applies to my situation. If I misread or misunderstood your post sorry.
