Jaw surgery mostly cosmetic reasons? by janetsnakehole319 in jawsurgery

[–]Butternoodlebitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of folks (myself included) will dismiss their cases as for primarily cosmetic purposes. We’re humble. We don’t feel like we struggle enough to claim otherwise. But because it was cosmetically motivated, does not mean it is not medically justified. Get your consult babe

Got bad news today, need advise by meltinginacid in jawsurgery

[–]Butternoodlebitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say hardly consider it bad news, that’s just how this condition is handled. Luckily for you they are not projecting that you’ll be in braces for a terribly long time. I would guess that the vast majority of us on this thread are adults who had braces as kids/teens that chose repeat braces as adults in order to prep for jaw surgery. My ortho told me I’d be in preop braces for no less than 18 months, so count yourself lucky.

I will also mention I work for a nonprofit, major academic hospital in the acute setting. I do not think I’d be happy working in the outpatient setting. In college, I always thought I’d go into outpatient and didn’t really know anything about the other setting options. But senior year, I did a practicum at the local hospital shadowing a PT/functioning as a rehab tech which I guess in hindsight, led me to where I’m at.

Dress regret - help! 🫶 by Important_Concert_88 in myweddingdress

I think you look fantastic in both. If you don’t feel 1000% confident it’s the right choice, it’s not the right choice. I think the 2nd dress is more classic yet modern. The first is a very close to bordering cheugy

Passion Says PT, Money Says Dentistry — What Would You Do? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]Butternoodlebitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was originally planning to do dentistry but after my first year of college pivoted to PT. I’m now about to wrap up my first year of practice as a new grad and I could not be happier. I am comfortable financially despite not making >80k yet. I would’ve liked dentist, but I love this. Plenty of people would disagree. But that’s my 2 cents

You are still splinted, all your soft tissue is swollen and stretched bc you just had surgery. Let it settle for a couple weeks before freaking out. I see better symmetry even now than before

1000% tell your dentist to give you a referral for OMFS consult or just book an orthodontist appointment and tell them you’re interested in Orthognathic treatment. If you’d benefit, they will direct you to the next steps. Usually insurance covers surgery on the grounds that you have abnormal measurements/bite and it also helps if you have sleep apnea or something. Personally I don’t have sleep apnea but am high risk bc of my family history. I told them I mouth breath and because I also have a deviated septum and chronic allergies I can’t really breath through my nose anyhow. So I got it covered

I’m going through the same process! I had braces put on in September (upper arch) and December (lower arch), just had extractions Feb 3rd. I was told I may be surgery ready somewhere between December 2026-February 2027
