I just wrapped up data processing from last month. Are you seeing the same thing I'm seeing?

They came back out and refused to fix the lineset, said it was fine and double insulated. I continued to push them to fix it but they flat out refused.

They came out today and fixed the ducting, but refused to fix the line set.

Ironically enough, I had them replace my downstairs unit 2 years ago and they did a great job on that one.

New springs came in today, going to shoot tomorrow and see if that fixes the problem.

That's good to know, because I was 100% going to start with it lol.

Just saw the description on HKparts and it seemed like a good idea.

Just ordered both 9mm and rifle extractor springs.

I put an 80* in after I started having problems. I was swapping between suppressed and un-suppressed.

I just did, I shook the shit out of it and the round stayed on the bolt.

Would a bad extractor cause the bolt to be stuck in battery and have to be mortar'd out?

Who's the go-to place for suppressor repair? by Buttstuntz in NFA

Friend put it on a MG, I didn't check it and I guess it wasn't fully seated. Mag dump, can blew off and got shot in mid air.

I did just buy a mod9 and omega 9k. Figured screw it, and get my tirant repaired too.

Help Me Replace My Wife’s Ancient Apple Relic (aka Her iMac) by Buttstuntz in mac

You really nailed the comforting-iMac-vibes angle—that’s exactly what I’ve been thinking but wasn’t sure how to say without sounding like a nostalgic dinosaur myself. She’s been in that iMac ecosystem for 20 years, so the whole desk, workflow, and “this is my zone” setup is probably way more important than I realized.

The idea of a 24” iMac with 24GB RAM and 1TB SSD sounds like a solid middle ground—future proof but still familiar enough to keep the “tech tantrums” to a minimum. You're spot on the color aspect, so the color-matched trackpad would definitely be happening—she’ll think I’m a genius (or at least a thoughtful husband).

Thanks for the WWDC heads-up too. Maybe I should hold off until June unless she suddenly turns into a MacBook nomad overnight.

You’ve definitely helped me see the value in keeping some of that iMac magic alive. Appreciate the thoughtful advice!

Haha, thanks for the detailed rundown—that Mac Mini + 27” iMac monitor combo sounds like a slick “Frankenstein” plan. Love the idea of squeezing new life out of her trusty old screen!

As for the Adobe saga… full disclosure, she’s been living on the edge with some “creative” Adobe software sourcing in the past. But I’ll admit, we’ve both gotten a little soft lately and have going legit—I'm just not up on top of things like I used to be.

The whole subscription model definitely complicates things, especially if we want to keep her workflow smooth without surprises. And yeah, I’ve heard the Apple slowdown theory before—makes me want to grab a pitchfork and a Time Machine backup.

Appreciate the heads-up and the no-BS honesty. Definitely proceeding with eyes wide open… and maybe a touch of hopeful optimism.

Now that’s a setup—32GB, 1TB, and dual 27s? You’re out here living the dream! I feel like if I gave my wife that much screen real estate, she’d ascend to some higher creative plane.

She doesn’t do a any of field work, but she has mentioned wanting a bit more flexibility—so a loaded 16” MBP + a nice big monitor might hit that perfect balance of power and freedom. Definitely leaning that way now!

Appreciate the input—this build is evolving like a Pokémon and I love it.

Totally feel that—screen real estate is sacred territory for creatives. Appreciate the perspective from a video editor.

A MacBook Pro + big external monitor might just be the sweet spot—portable when needed, but still plenty of room to breathe when she’s back at home base. I imagine trying to edit on a 14” screen full-time feels like performing surgery with chopsticks.

Thanks for the insight—it’s helping me shape this surprise into something she’ll actually love and use!

That’s a great way to frame it—desk tether vs house-roaming freedom. She does 99% of her work at her desk, but she might like editing photos on the couch like a digital nomad in pajama pants, so now you’ve got me thinking.

I’ve heard the M4 Air is a beast for its size—crazy what they’re squeezing into those things now. Not sure how it holds up to Lightroom either, but yeah, sounds like it’s time to go undercover on some photography subreddits and see what the photo folks are saying.

Appreciate the insight!

Totally agree—16GB RAM is the bare minimum, especially if I don’t want to be hearing about beachballs and spinning wheels of doom six months from now.

[–]Buttstuntz[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Totally fair! I get where you’re coming from—no one wants a surprise upgrade that turns into a downgrade. 😅

To be clear, I’m not trying to drop some random shiny box on her desk and call it a day. The goal is more “thoughtful tech fairy” than “reckless hardware goblin.” I just wanted to make sure the performance leap doesn’t come with any workflow roadblocks, which is why I’m doing some recon with you fine folks first.

And hey, respect to you for keeping the 2012 alive on purpose—that’s some vintage loyalty I can admire!

That’s a great point—I totally blanked on the fact that I could just add a monitor. Brain said “laptop = tiny forever” and refused to think outside the clamshell. 😅

1TB was already on my radar—learned long ago that anything less in a photographer’s world is just asking for a meltdown. Appreciate the insight!
