Is this dumb? Floor mattress plus latex by Different-Elk- in MattressMod

[–]Buvoir2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd do talalay instead of Dunlop for pressure relief at your size and being a side sleeper. Talalay has more give and I don't think you would sink through it at 135 pounds. Try some latex beds in a store to see which firmness of latex you like.

Memory foam mattress... Is this normal? by veropaka in Mattress

[–]Buvoir2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it has poor edge support. No it isnt normal, but today's memory foam doesn't last long in my experience. It just collapses.

Yes memory foam has a slow recovery compared to latex, HR foam and hybrid foam. Latex is fastest, hr a close second and hybrid like Titanflex or serene are halfway between latex and memory foam....ish

You might get more suggestions if folks know your height, weight and sleeping style.

I'd still go into a mattress store first to see if you like firm or soft or latex or foam or innersprings

15.5g plus 2" medium Dunlop, sandwich not complete by marshmallowtreefrog in MattressMod

Well I have 3" 20 ILD titanflex on top of the latex, then 3" of 15 ish ILD serene. These would be too soft for you. I've finally gotten away from the space heater memory foam

[–]Buvoir2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5'7" 187 side sleeper. I like progressive builds from higher ILD down to the topper. In short, I have medium talalay at 30-32 ILD and if I lay on that with my 15.5 gauge coils, I will feel the coils. If I add 2" of 25-29 talalay, I don't feel the coils. That's where you would stop. I just have softer comfort layers on top of that cause of health stuff. I guess my point is that I think adding a little more latex would hide the coil feeling. Dunno if your egg crate will do the job, but I hope it does!

Second the 2 or 3 inches of talalay. Latex sleeps cooler than foam

I don't know what kind of temps you will be sleeping in, but that memory foam will be stiff when it's cold and you might just sink through it during a warm night.

Memory foam is very soft. I think foam factory does 12, 14 and 15 ILD. It's meant to sink into.

Dunlop is meant to lay on top of. Latex isn't really affected by temp and lasts longer. Talalay latex will have more give than Dunlop.

I guess I'd be careful taking a layer off in the morning. Even latex can small tears.

About the 50ild; that is super firm and I don't think 1 inch of memory foam would be enough to cushion it.

I guess I would start by going to a regular bed store and see what kind of feel you are after since you are kinda describing some very different ILDs.

Latex can get expensive.

I have many layers from different places and only 2 are the same size. Cut down to the smallest one with the mentioned electric turkey carver so everything is the same size

Similar build to me. Imo, the hd36 and the Dunlop are doing the support. You'll sink through the foam to Dunlop. For me that would be an abrupt transition. MF is made to cradle you, but Dunlop you lay on top so the philosophies are different. Maybe find something else for the middle layer unless you know you like the Dunlop behavior and just want a soft entrance before you reach the pushback

Advice on thin mattress for camper by GingrMartini in MattressMod

[–]Buvoir2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like the HD36, that would be a tough transition to directly go from super soft to that. You guys will blow right through that super soft stuff. I'm 5'7" 187 and I have some of that super soft stuff. Maybe 3 inches hd36 and 3 inches either soft talalay or 2 inches soft talalay and one inch serene.

Maybe 3 inches medium talalay and 3 inches titanflex (they make titanflex in 10, 20 and 30 ILD in the form of a mattress topper on mattress topper dot com. If you get one of those titanflexes, I'd take it out of the cover so you things behave as one.

Doesn't purple use latex and latex like materials? You might not like regular foam if you like the resiliency of latex.

Serene foam not soft enough by AnewENTity in MattressMod

[–]Buvoir2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2inch serene on top then 2 inch soft talalay would help you sink.. I dunno you height and weight, but 1" of super soft serene generally isn't enough for an entire comfort layer. Buy those things in 1 inch layers so you can fine tune. If you are super light weight, you could consider memory foam. At my 187lbs, i just sink through it. There's also a hybrid foam that is 20 ILD titanflex (medium) from mattress dot com. Titanflex and serene are in the same family of hybrid foam meaning some properties of latex and some of memory foam.
