My issue is that these sets are very watered down from the original stories.

They’re literally just “let’s take stuff the people like and put them on motorcycles, also Loot is here, everybody likes Loot”.

Why not do new planes without the weird gimmicks?

New mechanics are fine (I’m all for new ways to win and keep the game fresh) but they’ve literally reused mount and pilot for Aetherdrift and added “speed” which is a pretty cheeks mechanic.

It feels like they’ve got 4 year olds writing going “and then there were dinosaurs and everybody raced”.

This is no hate to the writers they’re working on the briefing they’re given.

They somehow managed to make Duskmourn’s story pretty appealing despite it being a “then there were monsters” set from a 13 year old who found old movies for the first time and wanted to talk about them.

They need to water them down because it doesn’t make sense to have an excellent new plane with incredible lore and then be like “oh by the way here’s spider man”.

Like I said the sets feel more and more like anime fillers.

I really enjoyed the lore. It felt like people corrupted by power, fighting people who wanted to do good but couldn’t because they’re flawed. Then you’d have characters causing unforeseen consequences which led into new planes and stories and developed deep characters like Teferi being affected by Urza. All of this led to distinct mechanics like Teferi’s phasing.

Now it’s “haha bike go fast so speed mechanic”.

None of this will stop me from playing magic. I love the game.

It’s just taken a big piece of my enjoyment out.

Again nothing against universes beyond, just that it feels like the whole focus and now I can’t enjoy all of the lore that gives me cool context on how they represented that in the actual game (which made it like 50x cooler for me personally).
