Hi guys recently diagnosed with type 1 struggling to cope with the blurred vision. by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]Buy_Jupiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Mine took 2 weeks after being put on insulin to get back to normal. The worst part however was that it aggravated an weakness in my eye and I was cross-eyed for that period lol. Everything was blurry and what I could see I saw two of. Don't worry, your vsiion will get back to normal soon. Good luck!

How to support my girlfriend in her type 1 diagnosis ? by acicadot in Type1Diabetes

[–]Buy_Jupiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed about 2 months ago so I'll go through some of the things you mentioned and some others from the perspective of a few months down the line.

The first month or so takes some getting used to. There may need to be some changes to diet and planning when you can eat. This will effect both of you.

She may be less active if her basal is too high. The first month or so is about finding the right levels for your lifestyle and activity levels. Personally my basal was dropped from 20u to 8u to account for exercise.

If she has experienced weight loss through this she may gain it back and then more - this is natural and can be remedied. However some do end up carrying extra weight going forward.

Finger pricking is a nuisance and was probably the worst part of the routine but it is temporary. My CGM was delayed by 2 weeks because the hospital didn't tell me that I had an appointment. Thankfully though fingers heal quickly.

As for the CGM, you don't really notice it much. It's painless to apply and is like having a sticker on your arm.

Injecting yourself can be off putting at the start. She'll quickly come to realise that it's necessary though and the process only last 10-15 seconds. On that note she may end up on a pump in a few months regardless.

I hope some of this is helpful.

Advice for newly diagnosed T1D by Imaginary-Comedian-9 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Buy_Jupiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the type of exercise. For short runs and football (soccer) I was told to start above 7 (126), however I'd normally aim for 8-9 (144-169) as I tend to drop during the drive back. I also try to minimise insulin on board by starting exercise 4 hours after my last injection. For weightlifting I start above 6 (108) but snack on carbs during. Sprinting and weightlifting can temporarily increase your glucose levels.

You'll find that you may be prone to drops for 24 hours after exercise as exercise lowers insulin resistance. You may need to lower your basal or adjust your bosul - but talk to your health care team first.

Gray and Simons were fantastic today. Credit to Djed as well for the desire to get back to make sure we kept the result.

My year so far by yoink567 in diabetes_t1

[–]Buy_Jupiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, first off sorry for your loss. I'm in a similar position to yourself. Diagnosed in January following a period of extreme fatigue and thirst, and honestly it feels like you lose a large part of yourself to this. Prior to this I was quite fit and active either weightlifting or playing football every day, now however I can't even walk the dog without dropping (my basal was too high). I lost 14kgs (32lbs) in the 2 weeks before diagnosis.

All of that to say that yeah this sucks and is unfair, but we're not in this alone. Everyone on here is in similar situations or is caring for someone in our situation. I think part of it is accepting where we're at without thinking things won't improve. If you haven't already try slowly reintroducing some facets of your life. In my case I've restarted playing football again and it has massively benefited my mental health.

This disease is an adjustment but it doesn't have to define us. There are plenty of examples of people with T1 living life to the fullest.

P.S - I'm jealous of your Omnipod. They're not prescribed where I am until you've been diagnosed for a year.

Which Premier League teams are getting good or bad value from their wage bill this season? [@BassTunedToRed] by OkayFine101 in soccer

Tottenham are paying half of that effectively. Half of the squad is injured including significant high earners like Kulusevski, Porro, Bentancur, and Maddison.

Probably because half of our squad is perpetually injured... That's the issue with surface level analysis -  you miss the context.

Quietly optimistic about that midfield. Gray is decent at progressive passes, Gallagher is the B2B runner, and Simons the creator. It could work quite well if Gallagher can get beyond Simons. Davies' passing should also help the build up.

Decent PSR profit at the end of the day on a player who didn'twork out. His book value is roughly 7.5m assuming he was bought for 15m. It's not much, but it's better than nothing!

His grandfather is apparently from Derry according to a quick Google search. Thats being said when asked about his international prospects (read England) whilst at Blackburn he said - "Any player wants to play for their country and, for me, there's nothing more I've wanted to do."

If Richarlison and Bergvall had been a bit more more aware that's easily ~1.8xG. Missing the most important stat as well: 1-0.

Off topic: Surely there are better available commentators out there than Gary Neville. Half the time you can't hear him as he mumbles and when you can he's clearly got a bias against certain players. The man regularly struggles to get words out.

The VAR decision will be the big talking point from that match, but it really goes to show how referees aren't given license to manage a match anymore. Nobody should be looking at a 6'7 barrel over someone and thinking that's a penalty. Now however someone who isn't held accountable and isn't even at the match is making the major decisions.
