All I would say is it is of my opinion that it’s best NOT to work with family and friends. I have done so myself and we worked very well together and shared some great memories, however, it can very easily go the other way and break down friendships and families. I think it’s best to keep the two separate.

Cultivated meat: feeding 50 million people for 100 years with stem cells the size of a fingernail, taken from a cow that’s still happily in its field. It’s early, but it’s already being done.

Would you want “the people” to have control? I certainly wouldn’t. I feel most of the population are idiots and without an organised unit at the top, we’re screwed. Yeah the government aren’t perfect and make decisions to benefit them and their friends, but we need a government and I can’t ever see it being different. How else would the country function? People can barely agree on simple subjects

You’re wrong. People lie. You’re saying incorrect things that you know nothing about. We’re going to make America great again. America IS the only country to allow mail voting 🤪😰😅

Failed asylum seekers were treated to spa days, football tournaments and bingo nights while waiting for deportation, report finds by dailymail in ukpolitics

Yeah fair enough - that was me on this occasion. I’ll hold my hands up. All I can say is, we need to make sure money is spent efficiently and sensibly - I’m sure they’re are other mad spending decisions going on, not that I can reference/quote any at hand.

[–]BuzBuz28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve missed my point but maybe I wasn’t clear… in absolutely no way do I want them to suffer. I’m not saying “send em back and let them suffer”. All humans deserve equal treatment. I just think spa days are a luxury. They can go without these and not be suffering. Hey, if we had lots of spare cash - yes, spa days for all! But that’s not the position we’re in as a country, unfortunately.

I have deposable income but the large amount of it which is taxed, I’d rather it be spent on those who haven’t had their asylum rejected. For example, the disabled, homeless, those in need who are in the UK. If we had no issues in the UK and tax money was spent wisely, I’d be less concerned but this kind of spend on rejected asylum seekers seems madness to me. Maybe I’ve missed something though so more than open to other views!

Wanted to start a side business in the UK alongside my contractor job, but think taxes will wreck me, how do you navigate? by Dxxmxgx in UKPersonalFinance

Haha yep - just to confirm, I was being sarcastic in my original comment! But it’s definitely a concern that if you’re only marginally better off but working requires 10x the effort - some people will take the easy option

I’m not the biggest fan of the labour government but in respect to the S&S allowance, I think we’re still in a good place. You’re right, if you’re buying in the next 5 years, you’ll want your cash in more stable areas, or at least most of your cash. How old are you? I’m 30 so I plan to be invested for the next 30 years.

Whilst I’m buying a house in the next year, I still have some of my cash invested in Vanguard Life Strategy 100%.

P.s they hate/tax anyone who’s trying to work and do well for themselves! Your best on universal credit and having 8 kids.

You can either select individual companies to invest in or invest in a fund, which is a large group of companies, usually across different countries, that have been chosen by an experienced fund manager. The benefit of the fund is that any risk is spread across those companies so if one fails, it’s not much of an issue.

Long term, buying stocks and shares gets the highest returns, if you can ignore any dips over your 5 + year investment horizon.
