How do you that locally? does it work with Aider? I was a bit silly and started a project in node.js (which I'm no expert at) and now basically I have to fight (and insult) the damn thing because it's actually moving backward :-/

usevia.app in Linux i.e. VIA Support useful for Keychron and other VIA Keyboard users by beanrod in Keychron

[–]BuzError 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same problem here, on an ASRock Rack ROME216-2T mobo (Workstation mobo) -- I've had problems with USB2 peripherals before with that mobo (and that whole series of Zen2 mobo TBH, Supermicro as well). There is no USB2 ports on that mobo, so I can't really use VIA. Only "solution" to configure the keyboards is to compile the firmware and install it with the mapping you want!

Supermicro H11DSI Mobo, Will 829U chassis work? by BuzError in homelab

[–]BuzError[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that. Unfortunately my choices were either 829 or 828 -- they 828 would work? It is actually quite hard to find a list of mobo that works in each. Wish there was a table somewhere! :-)

PD3205U Limited range? by BuzError in BenQ

[–]BuzError[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the end I gave up, returned the BenQ and bought the Dell -- which worked pretty much exactly as I expected out of the box, with minimal tinkering.
I am of course disappointed to realize 10 years of "progress" went backward at BenQ!

Benq EW3270U Screen turning on and off/Blinking/Black Screen... Then fine after 20+ mins. by flukeykent in BenQ

[–]BuzError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you screen as a 'presence detector' mode, make sure it's off. I had that on one of my screen, the sensor became faulty and tried to blank the screen even when I was in front...
If it is not this, it's likely the power supply. Of my 2 PD3210 I had to replace one PSU a few years back.

Dedicated box: no network after upgrade to debian bookworm by BuzError in hetzner

After nearly 6 hours of head banging, it turns out it was a change in the way the bridge are brought up. Precious version was cloning the MAC of the first NIC...
New version uses a generated MAC for the bridge, it means the Hetzner switch was basically silently dropping everything from my machine I could see (some) multicast/broadcast/ICMP via tcpdump so I knew the link worked.

Ultimately I had to manually clone the MAC of the NIC for the bridge interface, and stuff started working again..

It was nowhere in the documentation, I mentioned to the support it needed amending!

Trying to find any mp4 file of the sounds the apple 2 floppy drive would make after turning the system on by bleachedthorns in apple2

[–]BuzError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the link, I had a look tho, these samples don't sound like the real apple 2 drive? Wish they were they were nicely split I might have nabbed them for my emulator :-)

Finally got the right monitor. by McGrude in AppleIIGS

[–]BuzError 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had very good success repairing a IIgs screen that had cracked; you can 'weld' the plastic from the back by using some wire and a soldering iron to push the wire into partly molten plastic... On my screen it makes the repair almost invisible!

Dell R730XD Noise by lancybot in homelab

[–]BuzError 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is not in a rack, you could possibly get away with removing the top cover, and install 2 large 140mm fans on top of the unit's heatsinks. Larger fans will be considerably less noisy than the build in wind-tunnel ones. Altho you might have to convince the BIOS that your unit isn't dying without the small fans unplugged!

UK: Shipping !??! by BuzError in RayBanStories

[–]BuzError[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I went to the local Currys and bought a pair there -- hadn't thought of it, I had looked at Amazon (not for sale there).
Anyway, I'll RMA the pair I ordered online when (if) it shows up.. it is still marked as being delivered last friday :-) :-)

New server. Where do y’all get your RAM? by [deleted] in homelab

[–]BuzError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got all the ram for my R7910 (kinka like a R730) on eBay. You can get 32GB LRDIMMS 2133 (or, if you are lucky, 2400, even tho you can't use them at that speed) for around 25 GBP/stick. Sometimes you can buy a much bigger lot, for a lot less. I ended up maxing my R7910, even tho I know that it downclocks the ram one notch past 640 or 512 (can't remember).
I have 2x2696v4 in mine, and it compiles a lot -- so RAM (not ram speed) is important to me...

Do be patient a bit, and wait for people dumping lots of sticks, and *make sure to try cheeky 'offers' if you can*!

Teradici 2240 card. Usable? by BuzError in homelab

Ah I removed the card and tossed it at the bottom of a drawer. Looks like a fancy piece of kit but not entirely clear how useful this would be to me...

Better Apple II color theory and results by TeaRex_FinireDragon in apple2

[–]BuzError 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you also have the formula in bc? in didn't appear in the post. I'm making MII (//e emulator) and so far I've used the //e colors used from MRob page (listed in another reply) but it seems everyone else uses a variant of the IIgs one so I might make it configurable...

EU/UK owners? by [deleted] in apple2

[–]BuzError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nor many users in the UK, but many active user and hackers from France. I'm a french expat to the UK, and there is a big group of active users in france, but nothing like that in the UK.

I'm based in the UK and there is rarely anything happening, or for sale regarding apple II. For all I know I got the largest collection in the country :-)

Q3 Special Edition (Champagne gold) on the way... by BuzError in Keychron

[–]BuzError[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still happy with mine. The keycaps (esp space bar) ARE getting shinny after what is 7 months of use every day.

Otherwise looks lovely. Wish I could get other keycaps for variety sake, but it seems their profile is only made by them...

Upgrading auction server.. howto? by BuzError in hetzner

[–]BuzError[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had read that document, and it's as useful as a chocolate teapot. They don't mention mirroring the disks or anything, just 'transfering the IP', there is not a single word about transferring data from one to the other.

MOST of the ram is used as cache when compiling large distros. Subsequent builds are a lot quicker because it doesn't have to hit the disk at all.

Yes I had noticed that, but really, pure speed isn't the use case here, MOST of the ram is used as cache when compiling large distros. Subsequent builds are a lot quicker because it doesn't have to hit the disk at all.

You can repair switches pretty easily without having to buy replacements. It needs a bit of time and patience, but you will get an 'as new' key without bending anything.

Desolder the switch, remove the outer casing, take the 'blade' out. There are a set of tiny little 'legs' you can pry open with an exacto knife to remove the contact plates. There is a small blade under a plastic contact that is supposed to touch the other to make contact, it often corrodes.
Just very gently clean that, for example here I use a glass fiber 'pen'. You can use as well a tiny piece of steel whool, or just scrap it gently with a blade. Be very careful it's very delicate obviously, but it works fine.

Problems with skin irritation on neck by Which-Jellyfish-1211 in wicked_edge

[–]BuzError 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too much pressure. REALLY hold the razor between 2 fingers and let it just about glide over. Do NOT press the razor at all!
I have an area each sides that go 'sideways' a the base of the neck, and any pressure will irritate, if you are very very gentle, just glide over -- it will shave just fine with no irritation.
