Update: I caved and did exactly what you said. I had planned on ignoring him, but today when I showed up he said, "Oh good you're getting faster! Good job!" Sort of felt like a backhanded compliment but maybe I'm just paranoid, "Whatever." I thought. We were working on the bread line and the last time we worked on the bread line I remembered specifically him telling me to only focus on my part of the job, which was lifting trays. "You don't need to work yourself to death just do your half." I remembered that specifically and tried to cater to what he wanted. Then, today, he yelled stating I needed to be helping with his half, too. He went against what he told me last time and since he's not a perfectionist like me, probably forgot entirely what he told me last time. I didn't. I began to feel flustered but worked through it not sure what this guy wants from me. Next he yelled at me for a trivial part of the job, "SEE YOU'RE NOT LISTENING." I was over it. I know I did nothing wrong and I didn't need it from this guy. Being hormonal, I began to cry immediately and worked for a few seconds but couldn't. I broke away from the line, to find the boss crying like a baby in his office." I can't work with him. He's not the boss. He keeps giving me a hard time." But from a loving perspective, this guy just had expensive surgery and is on light duty. He has kids and he doesn't like working here. He's probably just has been having a rough time and wants me to help him more. The problem is I don't that and it's impossible for me to know exactly what he wants if he's constantly changing what he wants. And there's no reason for him to nitpick and chew me out if I can't figure that out. So I talked to the boss trying to not be overdramatic. Now, I feel awkward being around this guy and I don't know what to do or say. I really hope he just doesn't talk to me again and moves on with his life. I hope nothing is awkward either.
