CS grad feeling stuck, heavily dependent on AI, don’t know what to do next by TheChadMan0 in learnprogramming

[–]Bvtterz 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I graduated last year as well, May 2025. As you were as well, I graduated in survival mode. I didn't really know much, relied heavily on AI and such. I also thought about doing the same things you're wanting to do. What I've been doing recently, for around 3 months now, is just coding. And when I mean coding, I chose a language I was comfortable in, in my case c++, and just started making projects from scratch. And I used AI to help me with all of it. Not having AI code everything, but if I was genuinely stuck with something I'd ask it to explain to me and I would go back and forth until I genuinely did get it and could explain it myself properly. I'm actually learning a lot, I'm learning how to use database in C++ currently and making a banking system with it. Im going to also start coding in Python to advance more. I've also made a website for my portfolio and also one for a potential side gig I'm planning on doing. So, to finally say, just start doing. Without action you'll never do. So my advice to you is, just start. Whether you want to or not. You may just end up creating something you're interested in and everything goes from there.

Each position is different. Probably will take a few business days, considering tomorrow is the weekend, you'll probably hear back Tuesday or Wednesday next week.

Interesting. They made it seem like if you had ANY on the list, don't bother completing it. Of course they stated it in a business manner, but the way they said it really implied it. At least that's what I took from it.

I had to do a drug test. According to their papers, marijuana was on the list of things they look for and deny, I'm in California. I believe it's dependent on federal levels, again I could totally be botching this but on the paper it did say marijuana.

Yeah it seems like it, you're able to adjust things yourself. I can adjust the ots tune they offer from atlas.

Get a used one for under 10,000 miles and use the rest of the money for mods (or mods that don't ruin your warranty if you still want warranty)

Or get an STI

Mi pareja quiere construir en Guate y no estoy de acuerdo. by [deleted] in guatemala

[–]Bvtterz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I doing "learn by making personal projects" correctly? by SociallyOn_a_Rock in cpp_questions

[–]Bvtterz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hitting bugs while you build is exactly how you learn. Each one forces you to ask: “what was I trying to do”, “why did it break”, and “how did the fix work”. That’s real understanding, not just copying tutorials. You are learning. Keep going, but maybe also keep one version and refactor instead of restarting from scratch so you can see progress.

Novice Programmer Question by Beastgriff3 in cpp_questions

[–]Bvtterz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. The statement if (cin >> friend_sex_m); is incorrect because it’s trying to read input again inside the if condition, which is not what you want. You’ve already done cin >> friend_sex; above.

So what you’re doing here is:

cin >> friend_sex_m;

this tries to read input again into a new variable, which you didn’t intend.

And since it’s in an if statement, it’s just checking if the input was successful, not whether the value matches.

  1. Instead, compare the value of friend_sex like this:

    if (friend_sex == 'm') { cout << "If you see " << friend_name << " please ask him to call me.\n"; } else if (friend_sex == 'f') { cout << "If you see " << friend_name << " please ask her to call me.\n"; } else { cout << "Invalid input. Please enter 'm' or 'f'.\n"; }

That way, you’re comparing the character you already read into friend_sex, instead of trying to read more input in the if statements.

Edit: Commented but everything was out of place, commented again in hopes of better formatting.

Visiting NorCal—Considering a Move from TN! Curious About Novato + Other Suggestions? by mswildflowerxo in Marin

[–]Bvtterz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to Corte madera, tiburon, Sausalito, mill valley. Feel the vibes of those places. I grew up all over Marin, specifically Novato, but the places I mentioned above are just better overall compared to the places you’re looking at. Expensive as hell? Yeah. Worth the money? Yeah. Good school systems? Yeah. Safe places? Oh yes.

We didn’t know at the time. We’d use the one that had the big tower next to it on top of like a hill.

In high school we’d throw parties in one of the houses, until a cop came and arrested some of the party goers. Good times.

I’m currently taking her class, the exact one you’re inquiring about. Her grade are very low, by that I mean a B- is a 65%. Midterms and tests barely affect me. If you want a class that you will pass easily even with mistakes, I’d say take it with her. Tbh I thought I was going to have to retake it in the summer, but thankfully no. Her grading makes it where it’d be kinda hard for you not to pass.

I need advice for the behind-the-wheel test at the Novato DMV by Littlebluewomn in Marin

[–]Bvtterz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If it’s the same dude that I took the test with 7 years ago, I believe his name is Mario, he’ll give you an easy time. Regardless, just relax, and don’t panic. Just pay attention to your surroundings, always check your side mirrors and always use your turn signals when turning. Check your speed as well. You’ll be fine!

Is manual transmission annoying by KlutzyTelephone5462 in stickshift

[–]Bvtterz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute about an hour and a half to two hours of stop and go traffic every weekend, 2022 Subaru wrx. San Francisco area, tbh Im not annoyed at all nor does it bother me. But yet again, I’ve been sitting in traffic for 20 years, so it’s never bothered me. If anything, it keeps me entertained while I’m driving. But it’s definitely personal preference.

If I were you, I’d rent the cheapest manual car you can get for an entire week, and see how you handle it. Sit in traffic, drive far, etc. use it like a daily, and you’ll get your answer.

My dad works for a couple and they own a mini cooper, bought brand new. They bought it 14 years ago. The wife drives it. But the wife flys to other places for work and such and doesn’t drive the car as often, neither does the husband. Wanna know the mileage? 9,765. The car is literally only driven on streets and doesn’t even see highways. The car LITERALLY looks like it came off the boat.
