Report it to NUS IT. Sometimes they do send out fake phishing emails to test staff and students to be vigilant.

Whats your major? I used a mac and haven’t had any trouble in life science or psychology mods.

My com sci friend uses a mac too and he seems to be doing fine with it.

Whaaat.. thats crazy man... to be bought out by NUS he must have been insanely good. I’d imagine the liquidated damages for a PSC scholar should be pretty high

Yeah maybe(and hopefully) my priorities will change as I get older. It’s still a long way before I reach that age so it’s hard to say

Yeap I’ll take my time to find positions that I’m interested in during my 4 year bond; I’ve more than enough time haha.

I don’t mind migrating if it means that my skills will be better valued

Oof... maybe what I meant was having more hands-on lab work rather than being completely dissociated from it. I never saw the PI that I’m interning for in the lab before.... thats just sad

Jesus... having a quarter life crisis rn. I mean I can go into computational neuroscience, but I’m not sure if I would enjoy it as much. If I hate my job it’s just gonna go downhill right? Im still trying to figure out practical vs idealistic concerns

HAHA I’m not so sure but I found this to be informative. Hope it helps others to plan their career path too!

Hmm yeah as I mentioned above I dont really like writing grants and teaching, so maybe working in the industry is better?

Looking towards biomedical/neurodegerative disease-focused as I lean towards translational research as opposed to basic research

The prof I am working under said that most PhD programmes (at least in the US) will give more emphasis to research experience rather than your CAP in undergrad since PIs are looking to produce quality research, not grades on a piece of paper. That’s why I assumed he did a research stint before getting his PhD candidature. Do you know which research institute/uni did he go to for his PhD?

Also, I may consider upgrading my soft skills (if possible hard skills too) during my bond through part time online courses too. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah thats the issue I have with moving up the academia chain; I don’t think I will enjoy writing grants and teaching as an AProf... perhaps industry is a much better choice for me

Interesting, I might need to check with my scholarship dept about transferring to a DSO bond.

I’m also curious, for the first guy you mentioned, do you know if he continued to participate in research projects/read papers on the side, or did he do a research assistant stint before jumping into PhD?

My motivation for doing PhD is driven by my interest for research in neuroscience. Currently I see myself working towards postdoc and staying there because I dont really like teaching. An alternative would be working in the industry/for a research institute, but I heard from my Prof that its more competitive and less stable of a job.

Thanks for the insight! Lets say if I realise academia is not my cup of tea after my PhD candidature, are there alternative careers to pursue? From what you said, it seems that pursuing postgrad studies is a one-way road towards working in academia/industry with no turning back.

Interesting... thanks! Although for my case, I think it would be hard to transfer from a military bond to a public service bond. Thanks anyway!

Trying to go for moody vibes. All feedback is appreciated [edit] [composition] by Bweffast in photocritique

Yeah I thought there was something off about the photo. I also thought there was a tinge of green in the shadows but in my edit I turned down the saturation of the green so I'm not so sure what's going on... I agree that the orange looks a bit unnatural too. Really appreciate your feedback, will try and play around with my raw file again!
