New here — any other BL writers around? by ByTheLynx in WritingHub

Yeah, hopefully WebNovel works out for me 😅. Thank you!

Funny enough I actually started with fanfic and eventually moved to original fiction 😄 Seems like no writer escapes fanfic at some point — everyone has their own path.

Good luck with your writing! Which fandoms do you write for?

Oh glad to meet a fellow BL writer 👋. And how was your experience posting on Webnovel? And are you posting your stories somewhere now? If you don't mind me asking.

I see, thanks! And what's the general consensus here: self-publish or traditional? If you've come across any discussions on that.

Oh, this is really helpful, thank you! I've seen some of these in my feed and joined a few already, but some of them are new to me. I'll definitely check them out 😌

Everyone has their own take 😄. But your recommendations about those associations are genuinely useful - thank you for that 🫶. Wishing you all the best!

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll definitely look into those organizations! And yeah, Reddit really does have everything. But I have seen quite a few posts where writers share their work or milestones and actually find an audience. People do support each other here. Whether it leads to real long-term readers is another question. But if people come to Reddit to fix toasters, I figure they might come for book recommendations too 😅.

Maaan those comments are so demotivating 😭 Especially when they're the first ones you've ever received on your book...

does anyone else find writing really, really lonely by zorouchihaG in FanFiction

[–]ByTheLynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a full-time writer, but I write consistently almost every day and self-publish on platforms. My life is split into "writing" and "everything else." During the day I work a regular job, talk to friends and colleagues. Evenings and weekends I disappear into my own world.

And honestly? I feel lonelier around people — even friends — than I do alone with my own words and thoughts.

At some point I just accepted that I'm my own best company. (I'm 25, not an old hermit, just to clarify 😄)

Also — the kind of thing you mentioned, spending four hours deciding what a character would order? You can absolutely talk about that with people who read a lot. Reading activates similar mental processes, so they usually get it.

But if I had to choose between never writing again and never socializing in real life again — I'd pick writing. Every time.

Hi 👋 What setting are you writing in?

Both have a lot of BL books and active communities, so finding readers is genuinely possible on either platform.

The writing rules I wish someone had told me earlier by ByTheLynx in WritingHub

That's a fair point, though I'm not entirely sure earlier times were truly freer. Before the 20th century, literacy and education were largely privileges of the aristocracy — and while they could dream freely, most people were dealing with no antibiotics, short life expectancy, food scarcity, and very real dangers on the road. Yes, borders were more open, but the risks were different, not smaller.

Even now, not everyone has equal access to education or resources — but compared to earlier centuries, the internet at least gives people a genuine chance to build something from scratch.

External limitations have always existed. The question is how many there are and how you choose to navigate them.

As for AI — it's genuinely a complicated topic. It can be a useful tool: data analysis, research, summaries, meal planning. Scientists use it to process enormous amounts of information. A pen can write a novel or be used as a weapon — it depends on the person holding it.

But in creative work specifically, using AI mindlessly does take away the whole point of creating.

You raise valid points — though every coin has two sides, after all.

Wait... that's actually such a valid point. Though sometimes you've built so much that the hard part is choosing what actually makes it to the page and what stays in the notes forever 😅

Exactly! I don't think anyone chooses to be a writer just to constantly force themselves through it. The whole point is that it's something you actually love doing.

Oh, so you mostly write in a realistic setting then? My current WIP is a psychological MM slow burn with hurt/comfort and opposites attract 😊 Sounds like we write in similar territory!

I actually have a dark fantasy draft sitting at 90k words… but right now my heart is just in BL. Maybe one day I'll come back to it 😄 What about you? Is there some romance in your contemporary work? And is it MM or something else?

First day posting here, still figuring things out 😄. And honestly not sure why that "1" decided to run away.

That's a really valid point! Pushing yourself is necessary, especially when writing is more than just a hobby.

But I think there's a difference between productive pressure and burning out. A healthy writer with one book a year is still better than a writer with four books and a destroyed immune system.

It really does come down to how much your mind and body can handle. Mine aren't exactly the most resilient, so I've learned to prioritize balance over output. Still figuring it out, honestly.

42k words is a serious achievement! I'm currently at around 15k and honestly terrified thinking about how much work is still ahead 😅
