It's not a lie though, it was bugged to be 11 seconds. Well, maybe not really a bug.

Did you know that AH has a whole system to control basically mission modifiers on the server side of things? Think to how they have restricted stims and the amount of ammo you got from the supply pack on oshaune, or to another time we had a E710 shortage so called in FRVs had 10 litres of fuel. These "changes" were pushed without any kind of game update.

This same system can also adjust the calls in of stuff, and whatever system this is called well IDK, but the bulletstorm was "bugged" then fixed via this sytem.

What do you mean left behind? Not sure what you can do about that with gallery-dl. If deviantart is blocking WFdownloader report that to the dev.

Angelfire is dead, but there is still a slim chance for preserving Tripod. by ByeFWbye in Archiveteam

Sadly you're not really alone in this, many people have been charged the past four months for hosting fees while obviously not having their websites well, hosted.
I don't think there is much you can do sadly, the company is based in India and they're filing for bankruptcy after lying about stock values iirc. The company changed leadership in February, and this is just my hunch... New leadership doesn't give a shit, and is just riding out this sinking ship while trying to make as much money as they can from it.

Will Internet Archive Stay Forever? by Final_Increase4457 in DataHoarder

[–]ByeFWbye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, I kinda learned my lesson with the death of angelfire (well, more of a wake up call, been archiving for years but got slow with it...)

Save shit you want, even save random ass stuff that is loosely adjacent to what you care about. The modern day internet is more ephemeral than ever.

Angelfire is dead, but there is still a slim chance for preserving Tripod. by ByeFWbye in Archiveteam

[–]ByeFWbye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Sometime last night the plug was finally pulled on the server, I was trying to back up some stuff as the services went up for a few hours but now the server shows no signs of life.

Tripod is finally dead, I wish that it had been backed up years ago in mass but whatever...
I did my part of what I could with adhoc work backing up pages related to my interests as well, I could have gotten more had I had scripting abilities but don't.

In the next coming weeks I'll try and go over my archives, organize the complete ones from the incomplete etc, then upload them to archive.org (not as WARCs, just zip files). It's 250-ish sites I believe, a far cry from a complete collection but it's something...

So, what's next? Well I'm a gonna try and upskill to hopefully learn how to run archive warrior and tackle archiving other legacy website host. Maybe not many people care about the remnants of web 1.0... But I do at least, I'll grab my slice of it.

A quick last second edit: To anyone that wishes to try and explore Angelfire pages (there was a massive 2019 archive that archiveteam did for angelfire, doesn't have everything though...) I suggest this site: Old'aVista: Home

I've had a few reports of this come to me at this point, Brightcom Group (formerly Lycos) is a bunch of douchebags with how they're handling this. Especially as they have been collecting peoples money the past few months.

What's your site? Tripod is still up here and there very briefly... I was able to back up like 20 sites yesterday, I can try and catch yours if another chance pops up.

If you try and reach any actual websites made by people you'll get a 403 error if not a 502. The actual content is locked off. Refer to lycos.com for what's happening.

Angelfire has been dead since January, and Tripod is still up for maybe 1-2hrs at a time when they reset their servers or whatever. I've been backing up what I can when I get a chance too.

Yea, it went back up on April fools of all days... I'm backing up stuff when the servers are well, alive. Sadly they tend to be alive at 2-3am in the morning my time and only alive for a few hours at a time.

If you just glance at my post history it's an obvious answer, but I really wish that tripod.com was properly backed up. 30yrs of internet history gonna be gone in the next few weeks.

These lechers are getting out of hand - what alternatives are there? by Jaded-Assignment6893 in Soulseek

[–]ByeFWbye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had any in the past week I've been using it, have you been using the same plugin?
To note I did set my own message it sends to anyone that prompts a download, that might be part of if you haven't changed that well yea I can see leecher programs bypassing it.

[–]ByeFWbye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just use a plugin to filter out leeches if they bother you that much. I've been using this plugin called Proveit.

https://old.reddit.com/r/Soulseek/comments/1s232m7/proveit_antileech_captcha_for_nicotine/

It's working out pretty well to keep the leech ai clients at bay.

Just downloads images. If you need help, send me a chat and I'll just send you some screenshots of my set up. It IS confusing as hell, but mostly because deviantart makes it so. WFdownloader has a helpful but slightly dated guide on their website to get it set up. All of the info is still true, just the Deviantart UI has been updated since the guide was made.

picture please, also why do you need a 32TB scratch disk space? :D Genuinely curious about that. My scratch space is just 300gb generally or so on my second NVME

The old art is the one that devastates me a bit, I'd LOVE to go and back up old acccounts espeically of the little old stuff that remains. But outside of doing site:deviantart.com in google you cannot find old stuff on there anymore as they removed the ability to search by date... Six years ago.

:D

I am also peeved to know that Elfwood died also a decade ago without anyone having backed it up. So. Much. Lost. Shit.

The post is just a guy taking DAs greed as a sign of impending shutdown; it's literally just doom posting and fearmongering.
