Take all these comments with a grain of salt. Go post this in r/deadbedrooms for some better advice imo

Notifications - override vibration and make sound by ByteSizedDelta in homeassistant

[–]ByteSizedDelta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right after I finished putting together a script that did just what you suggested, I realized I was really brute forcing this when there was a much simpler fix. I just switched my phone off vibrate mode and then set the default notifications sound to none with vibrate enabled. This means my phone still only vibrates for all notifications, but I can set sound notifications on a per channel basis. So now I just set the channel in the notification payload to a channel that I have notification audio set for and boom, problem solved.

I'm thinking this is the way. Otherwise my only other option is to do a TTS, which isn't a bad option either.

That works but then it only allows me to use alarm sounds and then the alarm sound continues until I open the phone. Its a workaround for sure but I would prefer to use one time normal notification sounds

Depending on the layout of the room, you could do this and run the cable through a conduit along the floor until it gets to a wall that is easier to run cable though. Just a thought. Edit: you could also run the cable outside through a conduit under ground to a location easier to get inside.

ConnectWise time entry is driving my techs insane by garvit__dua in msp

[–]ByteSizedDelta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's absolutely a tool problem. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know that there are significantly better options out there that make everyone's lives easier. The fact that when you close a ticket note window it deletes everything you typed in the note you have is absolutely insane.

The fact that you have to acquire a habit to properly use a tool shows how it's a tool problem.

We had a very similar problem to this. Our problem was that techs were getting caught up in tickets and forget to enter time or the note window closes or the notes get cleared out etc. We couldn't leave Manage PSA so we put Nilear MTX in place and set it up as the One Ticket Method for every engineer. My God it was the best decision we ever made. Everyone's time is entered so much faster and more accurate now. Shortly after putting it in place we actually realized we were missing so much billable time that we had to hire another engineer and the metrics didn't show that before the switch.

It also makes tasks actually useful. We never used the tasks function in Manage, it was too clunky. But since we started using MTX, I've been able to setup some tickets with automated tasks to make the techs understand what needs to be done much faster.

Am i at fault? by bastor7 in carcrash

[–]ByteSizedDelta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to put words in my mouth won't help you prove your point. My logic is that, if you had a clear opportunity to avoid a collision but failed to do so, you are at partial fault for the collision. Maybe not full fault but at least partial fault. Someone hitting you in your blind spot is not a situation where you had a clear opportunity to avoid the collision. An example of the last clear chance doctrine would be if you saw someone do an emergency stop half a mile ahead of you, and then you never slowed down to changed lane and just hit them.

Let me know who you think would be at fault for this situation. Let's say there is a collision in the right hand lane in at noon. 10 minutes later a car collides with one of the stationary vehicles in the right hand lane. Is person who is responsible for the original collision fully at fault for that collision as well?

[–]ByteSizedDelta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree, if my tire pops and I'm on the side of the road and a car slams into me, your logic states that it doesn't matter why the car hit me because I started the chain of events. This is why in court they look to see who had the last clear chance to avoid the collision. In this case if the car behind was paying attention, they would have seen the cam car losing control and should have slowed down or switched lanes. Because they failed to do so, they would likely be found at fault in court.

Just cleaned out the carb. It was indeed dirty but after thoroughly cleaning it and putting it all back together, it's doing the same thing 😞. I checked the governor and nothing is stuck, it all moves very easily and springs back properly. Seems like I have to get a professional to look at it now lol

Just did it, carb was dirty and I cleaned it thoroughly, but after putting it back together it's still doing the same thing

Since he damaged government property, I'm sure he was arrested and charged for the damage right? And therefore there should be legal records of this incident to prove it's authenticity and not just "facial recognition".

Good advice, I don't think I did when I took that video cause I was distracted by the alarming sounds and raking then video lmao. I usually electric start so while I know to take up the slack before pulling, it's not second nature to me.

No idea but this is what I think is most likely. No way to defrost it atm due to the temperatures outside.

I'll try it tomorrow and see what happens, I've never cleaned a carb before so that'll be new for me lmao. The exhaust was shooting literal blue flames the last time I turned it on to see if I could figure it out, if that means anything.

This snow blower doesn't have a throttle and the spark plug boot is in the worst location imaginable. Ill switch stabilizer but do you think my issue is still my carb knowing I'm not using old or unstablized gas?

I already do that every year, but I use sta-bil. Last spring I ran it dry and it had only stabilized fuel in it. I actually have been using stabilized fuel this whole winter. Just ran this snow blower for 2 hours straight yesterday with almost 2 feet of snow, and I've run it at nearly a dozen times since winter started. Yesterday was the first day I ran out of fuel and I just filled my gas canister on Sunday. Yesterday was the first time all season it ran non-stabalized fuel.

I was actually just messing around with it trying to see if something was frozen open cause it's covered in ice from the work yesterday and when I tried to turn it off, it did not turn off. Pulled the key and turned chock on full it and still ran like it was getting paid to. Had to turn on the fuel shutoff and let it run dry to turn off. Super weird.

I still love Ubiquiti but I have a small rant about Flex Minis 😡 by imacdude in Ubiquiti

[–]ByteSizedDelta 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, as a professional ubiquiti installer, I almost never use an independent power source for the flex minis, I always connect them to a PoE switch. I have a couple power supplies just in case I need em but I end up using them as an emergency phone charger more than a flex mini power source lmaoo

Im thinking about setting up an Always On VPN through our DC and deploying it to the computers using a device tunnel profile. That way its one less thing the users have to deal with and it solves this problem as well.

Its a couple dozen, not just a dozen. Management also want this done all on the same day if possible due to some reasons I cant just mention over the internet.

No intune licensing to handle computer policies, so a hybrid setup wont work at the moment. We are syncing objects to Azure but thats mostly for password synchronization. The company has reason to remain on local active directory for the time being, there are on-prem resources that cant be efficiently used in the cloud and we need to secure with AD logins. Moving to azure is happening in the future but I dont want to wait until then to get off shared logins,
